Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsley Allen.
Hi Lindsley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Miami but raised in small-town Hanover, PA. Grew up with a very supportive family who were also risk takers and paved their own way thru life turning their passion into purpose, My grandmothers were dancers – one danced for USO and the other a Tap Champion and my Dad was a legendary ace car driver who always encouraged me to follow my heart and chase my dreams – so that’s all I knew. I trained classically in ballet and modern in PA and eventually moved to Philadelphia which gave me a great technical foundation. From Philly, I auditioned and won a Joe Tremaine Scholarship in New York which transplanted me to Los Angeles. I started working immediately as a professional dancer and have had a fortunate career in the entertainment industry – some highlights include an original and founding member of The Pussycat Dolls, a dancer with Prince for over 5 years including VH1 Honors, American Music Awards and Around the World in a Day Tour, Showgirls, Dancing with The Stars and creator/director of Las Vegas RockWest Burlesque “Hottest Dance Show on the Planet”: CHERRY BOOM BOOM. I’ve also studied and performed with The Actors Gang for over 10 years and have done numerous productions as an actress, dancer and choreographer with Tim Robbin’s international theatre company. Most recently, you can catch me on the TV series Palm Royale, performing as Rose’ with OHH, MAMMA with AHF Events and a faculty member with Hollywood Connection Dance Convention – teaching master dance classes all over the USA. www.lindsleyallen.com | www.cherryboomboom.com
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The entertainment industry can be tough… so, it’s not always easy but it’s so worth it! I’ve met so many incredible human beings, creative and talented people, have so many amazing experiences and have traveled all. the world doing what I love. You have to love what you do, have resilience, grit, determination and a tone of fun along the way — I’m proud to say I’ve been involved in so many golden opportunities and projects with inspiring people and I can’t imagine not being in this industry — because even though the business can be brutal, the people and journey along the way make it all worthwhile!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most known for being an original and founding member of The Pussycat Dolls — the OGs that started at The Viper Room and over 7 years built the platform for the international pop sensation, PCD. Most people don’t realize it was’t over night — we worked on the show and developed it over many years. Along with OG dancers, I was Associate Choreographer and Co-Artist Director. I’ll never forget when we did a 15 minute set for Beverly DeAngelo and Johnny Depp walked in and saw the show — he immediately saw so much potential and gave us a residency at The Viper Room. That’s when we had to expand the show and add more dancers — that’s when we created a buzz in Hollywood. From there, Interscope Records saw a show and had the idea to turn it into a singing group – that’s when they brought Nicole in – and the rest is history! I’m proud of my contribution to PCD and happy that this new trio incarnation is about to tour!
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I think everyone was my mentor, I learned from every job and every seasoned dancer, choreographer and director I was in the room with. I feel fortunate that I had great mentors to learn from – to name a few: Michael Peters, Vincent Patterson, Nora Ephron, Tim Robbins, George Bigot, Desmond Richardson, Prince …. the list goes on and on! As say, SOAK in whatever you can learn and grow from each and every experience — continue to be THE STUDENT.
