Check Out Levi Palomares’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Levi Palomares.

Hi Levi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Summer of 1998 in Mexico City, a very young couple started a new family with their loud and squealing baby. The father found out that playing some chords on the guitar and singing would make the baby fall into a deep hypnotic state for hours. Years passed and the baby grew up without remembering that feeling… until his friend in fifth grade brought his guitar to school. “Do you wanna play it?” His friend asked. The little boy grabbed the guitar and after the first strum, he fell into an infinite hypnotic state. He called it -his passion- and he decided to do that for the rest of his life. In high school, he found other people that were in that same hypnotic state and they decided to stay together and create a band. Together, they saw their dreams come true: Touring around the country, opening for their favorite bands, and playing their own songs on stage. Life kept going and their paths took different directions.

For our friend, his path took him to Berklee College of Music. The love and support of his family, a scholarship, and his passion gave him the opportunity to study in his dream college in Boston. Our guy met and connected in so many ways with amazing people from all over the world. Being outside of his home country made him find his own sound with big influences of Latin pop and hard rock. Last year, after getting his bachelor’s degree, he decided to move to the crazy and hectic city of -Los Angeles-. He moved to the city with no friends, no job, or any place to stay. His passion and his guitar kept him company. L.A. didn’t make it easy for our boy, but with big amount of patience and a little bit of hard work, he found his people and his place in the city of stars. Now, he is super thankful to be writing his story for all of you and hoping to connect & vibe with more people through this article.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If I’m realistic, having both of my parents supporting my crazy dreams and goals took a big weight off my shoulders (parents, support your kid’s dream. It really works). I feel I always projected big confidence on my goals and what I wanted and it made it easier that my parents believed in me and my dreams. At the beginning, my biggest problem was that I was the only musician in the family and we used to move a lot to different cities. There was no one that could guide me in the right direction besides YouTube tutorials.

My second biggest struggle was -English-. When I was in high school, English was the only class that I failed. You can imagine how I felt when I found out that for my Berklee audition, I needed to do an interview in English. Playing guitar, reading music, improv? Easy. Interview in English for 15 minutes? Heeeeeeeeelp. I studied for my interview as much as I did for the audition haha. The thing that made me improve my English really quickly were my friends from Berklee. It’s always easier to learn a new language if your motivation is to speak with the people you love.

Those challenges were difficult, but the biggest one for sure is the one I call “Moving to LA”. I was unemployed, didn’t know anyone, had no car, no connections, had to figure out what a credit score was, and how to pay taxes. I used to feel so sad watching my friends going out on the weekends in Mexico and Boston while I was alone in a hostel trying to figuring out what I was doing in LA. All of these experiences have taught me so much about myself and life, realizing things that I used to take for granted. These experiences also showed me that I’m surrounded by the most amazing friends and family who saved me in my darkest moments.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Besides the fact that I’m a great Halo player, I’m a musician through and through. Guitarist/ Latin pop producer/ songwriter. Give me a guitar and I can make noise with it. People know me as the guy who throws the craziest parties, but they also know me as a nice guy lol. No but seriously, everything to do with music that is Latin pop, reggaeton, music production and electric guitars – people think of me. I’m adaptable and like to vibe with as many people as I can. I’m most proud of the fact that I can still dream like a kid and work as a professional. It’s easy to fall into the wheel of just working to get money, losing sight of goals and your chosen path. I’m proud of myself for not falling off my track.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
