Check Out Kei Filipek’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kei Filipek.

Hi Kei, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I came here for my acting career. I was born and raised in Japan, raised by my Japanese mother and Australian father. As a mixed-race being raised in the countryside of Japan, I had some painful experiences throughout my childhood. I loved reading books and watching movies during those days, and it really helped me “escape” reality, I had a place where I could dive into. That was one of the key reasons that I wanted to become an actor. Having my father’s influence, I have watched many Hollywood and other English films. Since I was a child, I’ve dreamed of pursuing my acting career in LA, and here I am. I came here when I was 18, and since then I’ve been in LA to pursue my acting career.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were many struggles that I had to face throughout the years dreaming to become an actor. As I mentioned earlier, I had some harsh experience as a child, but that wasn’t all. Being in the United States as a foreign National, there were many obstacles that I had to deal with. It is not easy to land a role as an actor. It is even harder for internationals to get roles here. But that’s what I’ve chose to do. Acting was my ideal way to work since I was 10, and that has not changed since then. Every time I get a role or an opportunity to act, I feel great. There are many struggles that I have to keep facing, and there will be more walls I have to face throughout my career, however, I strongly hope that one day I can become an actor that can influence people.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actor currently based in LA. I’ve been in several short films, both Japanese and English, and some commercials. I was also casted in a Japanese National TV show called “Sekai Nandakore Mystery” as a reporter that was shot in Texas, which was one of the biggest projects that I was honored to be a part of. This experience has made me even more passionate towards my career. I’ve been in LA for a while, pursuing my acting career, and every achievement that I had has lead to increasing my motivation and to keep grinding in order to elevate my career. I believe that being a mixed racial( Japan and Australia) can be a huge advantage for my career, and I hope I can use my look for a wider range of roles and possibilities as an Actor.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I believe that the passion and the energy one puts it’s into a career is one of the most essential keys to success. It’s what the person really wants to do andin my case, that’s acting. Back when I was a student in Japan, I had many comments from people telling me that I won’t succeed, I should get a realistic job, etc… but I strongly feel like they are not the people I should listen to. I have a strong motivation and passion in my career as an Actor, and I should not let negative comments get to me that I should give up. I’ve had those struggles with people giving me negative opinions, however, I decided to keep going. And now, I have people around me that actually support me and believe in me. I believe that if there’s something that one wants to pursue, keep pursuing it, then you will start meeting people that actually support you and or in the same field as you, which can really help boost one’s motivation. That was my case pursuing my acting career.

I feel that the harsh experience I had as a child really helped me become more independent and appreciate the people that support me. All the experience that I had throughout my life has really helped me get to where I am now. I believe that my life experience will continue to be my essential aspect in order to become more successful in the entertainment industry.
