Check Out Jules Wood’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jules Wood.

Hi Jules, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a child I always dreamt of furthering my education, I attended many different schools as my family are Gypsies, We traveled around a lot in my childhood and I left school when I was just 11 and started working with my grandmother to earn some money, She was a fortune teller and would sell trinkets, Then I worked at a Chicken farm near our Gypsy camp I would start at 6am every morning, I stayed there until I was 16. I then started work at a biscuit factory Mcvities in Ashby De Zouch, Where I met an amazing girl, her father was a teacher and he told us we needed to get out of the factory and go to college, He knew my story and knew I had left school so young. He then helped me get my GCSE to get into Art College in Burton on Trent, where I completed my diploma and applied to University of Westminster in London. And in three years I gained myself a Bachelors Degree with honors, instead of attending the graduation my best friend and I left England and travelled to Tokyo where I lived and worked for 4 years.
I have always worked in the creative field, even when I was studying photography at Westminster. When I traveled around Asia for work, I fell into the magazine and fashion world, I was offered a position as the Fashion Editor of B International in Hong Kong in the end, that landed me into the role of Editor-in-Chief of Reserved Magazine, and subsequently owning it. I have since used Reserved as a platform for my activism work for the “Equal Means Equal” an amazing organization that is fighting for the equal rights amendment. Last year I had the honor of being a mentor at SCAD universally in Atlanta, It’s so important to help the next generation and I’m so fortunate to be able to be a teacher and creator.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work as a Celebrity Stylist and work closely with celebrities such as Helena Christensen, Caitriona Balfe and Sean Lennon. I have also worked alongside the legendary Peter Beard and Mick Rock and  also style shoots for legendary fashion photographer Ellen Von Unwerth. She also serves as Fashion Editor of Ellen Von Unwerth’s VON Magazine.
In 2016, I  became Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of the critically-acclaimed fashion and art magazine, Reserved.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think that life isn’t an easy ride, and with all the challenges and obstacles I have lived through in my lifetime, I have learned that they have all been important learning experiences. Especially flighting to get the ERA Ratified that’s been something that has been real challenge. In the United States not only are Women’s Rights NOT equal to Men’s but they are granted at the pleasure of those in power, the ERA movement protects and supports women’s rights and equality.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Be Honest and Have Integrity… Be Courageous… Be Self- Aware… Be Wholehearted…
