Jose , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From Passion to Business: My Journey in Screen Printing
My journey into screen printing began in 2014 in the most personal way possible—through my kids. Like many parents, I cherished the artwork they created in pre-school and kindergarten, but over time, some of these precious pieces began to deteriorate. I wanted a way to preserve their creativity, so I started experimenting with screen printing, turning their drawings into lasting prints on clothing. What began as a fun project to save my children’s artwork soon caught the attention of other parents and local businesses. By 2016, I realized that this hobby had the potential to become something more, and officially launched my screen printing business, decorating apparel for others.

As my screen printing skills grew, so did the demand for my work. What started as a passion project quickly transformed into a small business. I found myself taking on orders from local businesses and expanding my operations. However, when COVID-19 hit, I had to take a step back. With an elderly family member living with us, I made the difficult decision to limit contact with others to keep my family safe. During this time, I continued to fulfill orders for healthcare workers, which was both fulfilling and a way to keep my business afloat.

The pandemic also led me to reevaluate how I approached screen printing. Instead of relying solely on traditional methods, which required a lot of equipment and space, I discovered screen printing transfers from Supacolor. This innovation simplified my process—now, all I needed was a heat press. This allowed me to continue working from home, taking on small orders and setting up in my parking lot for larger jobs.

In August 2023, I took another big step by launching a YouTube channel Masterscreenprints. My goal was to share tips and tutorials with others who were interested in screen printing but might be intimidated by the complexity of traditional methods. I wanted to introduce them to the simpler techniques I’ve adopted, like using screen printing transfers. The channel also serves as a platform to reach potential clients and grow my business further.

Looking back, what started as a way to preserve my children’s artwork has become a fulfilling career that allows me to express creativity, serve my community, and support my family. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next and to continue sharing my passion with others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth. One of the biggest struggles has been marketing to attract more business. Balancing orders with my regular job was also a challenge—there were times when I’d work until 3 a.m. to finish an order, then catch just a couple of hours of sleep before heading to my 9 to 5 job. This balancing act has been tough, but it’s part of what drives me to keep pushing forward.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work in healthcare, but my passion lies in screen printing and apparel decoration. I specialize in creating custom designs that bring people’s visions to life, whether it’s for a birthday, family reunion, teams, wedding, or even a funeral. I’m most proud of the moments when I see a design come to life and how it brings joy or comfort to my clients. What sets me apart from others is my dedication to making every piece special, no matter the occasion. Balancing this with my healthcare job has been challenging, but it’s the love for my craft that keeps me going.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
A lot of credit goes to my wife, who has been incredibly supportive of my business. She would often stay up late with me, helping set up the shirts, folding them, separating them by sizes, and packaging them for shipment. Her support has been invaluable.

I’ve also had some great mentors along the way. Reyes The Entrepreneur, who you can find on YouTube, has been a significant influence in helping me start my own YouTube channel. His guidance and encouragement have played a big role in my journey. He has inspired me to continue creating YouTube videos, and his story is an inspiration to me.
