Check Out James Carr’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Carr.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
was born and raised in a small town in Pennsylvania, and from an early age I knew I wanted to experience something bigger. Being close to major cities like New York and Philadelphia really opened my eyes to what was possible and made me curious about creative industries and larger opportunities.
After graduating high school, I made the decision to move to Los Angeles, and I’ve been here for about seven years now. During that time, I’ve had the chance to build a career in entertainment—appearing on shows like Wipeout, being featured in music videos with artists like Maxo Kream, and developing my skills as an audio engineer.
I eventually connected with the YSL camp, where I’ve worked alongside artists such as LitothePlug, Bdime, and Young Thug. That experience really pushed me to grow professionally and showed me what it takes to operate at a high level in the industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been uncertainty and financial pressure, especially early on in Los Angeles. There were moments where I didn’t think opportunities—like my appearance on Wipeout—would even materialize, but they did, and that taught me to stay patient and consistent.
Balancing multiple responsibilities has also been a challenge. At times I’ve worked up to 36 hours straight between studio sessions and my regular job just to stay afloat. That kind of schedule can be draining, and it forced me to really think about time management and maintaining some form of personal balance.
There were moments where I felt stagnant or overwhelmed, but looking back, those periods pushed me to level up. They lit a fire under me and helped me become more disciplined, focused, and resilient.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a self-taught audio engineer, as well as a model and musician. What I’m most proud of is teaching myself how to record and engineer my own music. There was a time when I didn’t understand the technical side at all and even avoided learning it.
Now, not only can I record myself confidently, but I’m also continuing to grow by learning alongside experienced professionals in the industry. That journey—from not knowing where to start to working in real studio environments—means a lot to me and reflects my willingness to adapt and improve.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
A lot of people assume I’m from the West Coast because I’ve been in Los Angeles for so long, but I’m actually from a small town in Pennsylvania.
Another thing people are often surprised by is that I’m the only boy in my family with two older sisters, which definitely shaped how I grew up and how I approach relationships and communication today.
