Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Keaton.
Hi Isaiah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started listening to music as a way to escape from everything that was going on in my life. Artists like J Cole, Drake, Tupac told my story. My family dealt with a lot of financial struggles. I dealt with a lot of heartbreaks. But through it all, I still felt this odd responsibility to try my best to uplift my community. I figured the best thing I can do is to offer my story to the world. Music has been my way of doing that. It started off as a dream of course. As I started to take it more seriously, I overly invested in the career. I lost a lot of friends because all I did was make music. I’ve experienced so many heartbreaks trying to find a balance between being there for my loved ones, and dedicating time to the craft. It is still a balance I have yet to find but with every loss I experience, I believe life kinda forces me to get it right. Although my music has been getting better, I am still finding myself on this journey. I guess that is what my next album will be about.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. So many financial investments that came out to nothing. It’s hard because naturally, I yearn for simple things like love, a family, peace, and being a better man. With this career, it’s almost impossible to be everything you need to be for someone, while also trying to be everything you need to be a successful artist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a rapper who sometimes sing. I produce a lot of my music. I also have a clothing line and lead the Slum Children community. I am probably known for my music-or my hard work. I am pretty open with everything that I do. I think even if you aren’t a fan of the music, or clothing, seeing all of my failures be shown in public might make someone want to follow the journey. It is almost like watching someone try to figure out how to become who they are supposed to be…all in real time.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I answer DMs, emails… I even have a discord where I am open to hearing other people’s music. For the most part, if the art is good and I can relate to it morally in some way, chances are I am down to collaborate. As far as support….listening to my music, joining the discord, watching the streams, purchasing clothing/cd’s is a good way!
