Check Out Hector Pinilla’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector Pinilla.

Hi Hector, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in the creative and music industry began in Maracaibo, Venezuela, where I discovered my passion for urban music, songwriting, and audiovisual production as a teenager. By age 16, while studying acting, screenwriting, and media production, I released my debut album La voz de la evolución (2012) under my independent label, Pinilla Records. That early career as an artist and producer allowed me to build hands-on experience in television, music videos, and sound design.

In 2017, I relocated to Bogotá, Colombia, seeking to expand my artistic horizons and navigate a highly competitive industry. Over the years, I continued releasing music as Hexson, working on national television projects (such as Caracol Televisión’s La Voz Kids), and mastering high-level video editing and digital storytelling.

That background naturally evolved into my flagship platform: Hexson TV, where I am widely recognized as “La Grasa Del Género”, dedicated to deep analysis and specialized coverage of reggaeton and trap culture. Today, I have earned a respected place within the urban music industry, building strong friendships and direct relationships with iconic figures and executive producers like Alex Gárgolas and Spiff TV.

Born directly from this ecosystem is Corillo Exclusivo, my media agency and digital studio specializing in high-impact vertical video editing, content strategy, and brand identity for international clients and artists.

Beyond the public persona and the digital work, I am fundamentally a family-first man. My greatest drive and absolute priority are my wife and my three beautiful children: Saúl, Liam, and Mía. Getting to where I am today is the story of resilience, mastering emerging technologies, and building a meaningful legacy for my family while empowering global urban culture.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been anything but an easy road. Like any real journey of growth, I made mistakes, aligned with the wrong people who slowed my progress, and listened to advice from those who lacked the vision or mindset I aspired to reach.

Arriving in Colombia in 2017 was one of the hardest chapters of my life: starting completely from scratch in a new country. Just 15 days after landing, the person hosting me asked me to leave because I hadn’t found a job yet. Fortunately, a great friend from Mexico, Perla, opened her doors to me. Still, navigating the daily hustle was brutal. I worked at a barbershop near downtown Bogotá, but everything I earned was immediately consumed by daily food and transit, keeping me trapped in an endless cycle. At my lowest point, I even had to sleep inside a neighbor’s retail shop next to where I worked.

Over time, I transitioned into retail sales for global tech and electronics brands such as Sony Xperia, Honor, Xbox, Microsoft, and Electrolux. While this taught me valuable commercial insights, I went through years of severe depression. I felt my real talent and life purpose were being dimmed to build the wealth of major corporations that didn’t care about my personal future.

The ultimate turning point came in 2024. Facing my 30s, I realized I could no longer postpone my dreams or live an ordinary life that wasn’t mine. On September 9, 2024, I made the definitive decision to take control of my destiny and posted my very first reggaeton analysis video on social media. I bet everything on my passion, expertise, and talent—and from that single moment on, everything changed.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am Hexson—known across the digital landscape and urban music industry as HexsonTV, “La Grasa Del Género.” I have established myself as one of the most authoritative, respected, and authentic commentary voices in Latin American urban culture.

What I do and specialize in:
I specialize in high-level content creation, deep-dive music industry analysis, narrative commentary, and digital media production. While most channels stay on the surface or chase shallow headlines, I break down breaking news, industry trends, and the history of reggaeton and trap with deep cultural context and technical precision. My work also includes conducting strategic interviews with both emerging talent and elite industry producers, such as Josh D’Ace (“La Barba de Oro”).

What sets me apart:

Signature Vocal Identity: My tone of voice is my ultimate trademark. Audience members don’t even need to look at the screen—the moment they hear the first few seconds of narration, they instantly recognize the signature sound of HexsonTV.

A Deep, Unfiltered Connection to the Roots: Although I was born in Venezuela, I always say I carry a Puerto Rican heart. Since childhood, I consumed every documentary available—from The Noise and Boy Wonder’s productions to Spiff TV’s work. I truly understand where this movement started and the stories of resilience behind it. My dream is to visit Puerto Rico soon to connect directly with the birthplace of the genre.

What I am most proud of:
My greatest point of pride is being a source of inspiration. I see many emerging content creators adapting my formula, narrative cadence, and delivery style as they build their own identity. Knowing that I set a standard for quality in Latin urban media, hearing young creators ask for my advice, and receiving their genuine respect is the most rewarding achievement of my career.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Rather than relying heavily on traditional books, my growth philosophy and learning process are rooted in direct observation, memory, and lived experience. I’ve always been someone who learns by “seeing and living.” I absorb my surroundings, analyze every situation, and selectively retain the core lessons that truly help me evolve as a person, creator, and entrepreneur.

Since childhood, my greatest source of inspiration came from high-impact documentaries on channels like Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and History Channel. Those productions taught me how to analyze stories, understand complex systems, and build a passion for visual storytelling. Today, I continue to fuel that curiosity through independent YouTube documentaries and content focused on science, astronomy, energy, psychology, cultural history, and investigative topics.

I am also deeply inspired by travel vloggers who document real-world experiences globally. Watching different cultures, human behaviors, and how people navigate challenges in real-time enriches my narrative style, my visual direction, and my ability to connect authentically with a global audience.
