Today we’d like to introduce you to Gustavo Fuentes

Hi Gustavo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Gustavo Fuentes but most people know me as Flekz. My roots trace back to El Salvador where I was born before moving to LA as a first-generation immigrant. I first started exploring art in the form of graffiti in high school but I quickly discovered I could achieve more intricate controlled designs creating stencils. This experimentation eventually led me to discover and utilize tape as my primary medium, which has since then become my signature and distinct style.
Over the years I have refined my artistic approach and have not only been creating art pieces on wooden panel boards but have focused on creating large-scale murals that feature multiple layered designs. My passion for creating art and experimenting with what designs I can push with the tape medium have fortunately led and allowed me to collaborate with major brands like Adobe, Google, Ford, BMW, Vans, Nike, and many others.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely had its bumps as with any creative journey however, I have been incredibly fortunate to have received unwavering heartfelt support from my followers, collectors, and loved ones. Their belief in me have been a consistent driving force especially during tough times when self-doubt or external challenges have crept in. I’m extremely grateful for their encouragement and find that it keeps pushing me to continue evolving and pushing my craft further. Each piece I have created has felt like a shared success to those who believe in my work and my vision and is a consistent reminder of how rewarding it has been to turn my passion into a career. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue sharing my art with a growing audience- it has definitely been a journey that reminds me how much more potential there is to still achieve and I am full heartedly enjoying the whole experience.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in large scale mural work that draws inspiration from the intricate beauty of sacred geometry. My creative process is characterized by a free-styled approach which allows my imagination to explore without the constraints of measurements. This allows me to flow and enjoy the process with experimentation and results in a diverse range of styles, each piece uniquely reflecting my artistic vision. In addition to large-scale murals, I create commissioned art pieces that range in various scales to tailor to each clients needs. What sets me apart is my commitment to my continuous experimentation and evolution in my work. I strive to keep my creations dynamic and engaging, while still allowing a distinction in my style, and ensuring that each project is a fresh expression of my artistic journey.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I owe a great deal of my success to a number of mentors, supporters, and advocates who have played pivotal roles in my journey. First and foremost, my family has been incredibly supportive, encouraging and supporting me to pursue my passion for art from the beginning. Their belief in me has been a constant source of inspiration. In addition, I have been fortunate to have several mentors in the art community who have guided me along the way. Their insights and feedback have helped me refine my techniques and expand my artistic vision. Collaborating with various fellow artists has also been invaluable as they have challenged me creatively and have pushed me to explore new ideas and styles. Additionally, my clients deserve recognition. Their trust in my vision and willingness to invest in my work have allowed me to grow not only as an artist but as a business. Their support has not only validated my efforts but has opened several doors to new opportunities and collaborations that have shaped my career. Lastly, the enthusiasm and support from my fans and followers have been profound in my journey. Their appreciation for my art drives me to continue creating and evolving, and I am truly grateful for their encouragement.
