Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Halleck.
Hi Evan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a landscape photographer, time-lapse artist, comedy director, vfx artist and editor. I have always been interested in lots of different types of art and always constantly pursued all forms of it. I have been consistently doing these five different professions for the last seven years now in Los Angeles.
I really enjoy switching it up a lot as it always makes for a different job and scenery. I will be editing in an office one week and shooting a timelapse in Moab Utah for a film the next. I am not one to stay put for too long so it has really been working out with my lifestyle.
I am an avid hiker and would constantly take photos/time lapse while I was camping. I took a photo and timelapse at the grand canyon that went very viral and was noticed by National Geographic, weather channel, abc and more. That pretty much jumpstarted my career and got me a fan base and gigs Which started turning it into a career and start making money from it.
With directing, I was always making dumb comedy videos as a kid. I have been steadily growing the quality of them with each short My current one being a stop motion animated pilot with people who have worked on Coraline and robot chicken.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge is except for a very few groups of people, there isn’t a ton of money in landscape photography. The fact that I do like six different things and try and make them all work definitely has gotten in the way of things but also made it possible for me to continue doing these. To truly fund the time-lapse photography and comedy films I was working on, I had to find a job to pay for all those projects. At least in my experience, there isn’t a ton of money in timelapse so you need to be able to have some money coming in other ways to be able to support the hobby. It took a while to be able to figure out how to make this all work but for the last four years, I edit and do vfx for Toyota and McDonald’s commercials in the southern California area. This has been a dream as I am able to do a little bit of everything that I am into and be able to self-fund my gear & short films I make.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I have spent all of Covid quarantine in a garage with some very talented stop motion professionals making a short film called shit show that we are going to try and pitch to adult swim. The story follows three of the most disgusting objects in the world as they fight for acceptance in a society that wants nothing to do with them. We finished the animation part of the film and have a couple of major things left to finish it out. We are launching a kickstarter for it January 15th and will be showing our first teaser for the film!
