Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmy Skebe.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I left my home country of Thailand at the age of 15, accompanied by my mother, sister, and brother, in search of better opportunities in America. At that time, we had limited financial resources and lived together in a small studio apartment in Glendale. My mom, sisters and I occupied the bed while my brother slept on the floor. I completed high school and began working as a teenager. Gradually, our situation improved, allowing us to transition from a studio to a larger apartment.
As an ordinary girl, I had dreams like many others, particularly the desire to travel the world. However, I soon realized that these aspirations were merely dreams. Consequently, I returned to school while continuing to work and set new goals for myself. I successfully completed a hotel management program with the intention of pursuing a career in the hospitality industry globally. Unexpectedly, I met my husband, which altered my plans for the better. I resumed my career, this time with a logistics company. After six years of living together, we got married and welcomed a baby girl into our family. Despite the challenges, including being laid off during the pandemic in 2020, I remained committed to my work. Ultimately, we were able to move into a larger home and benefit from our investments. I am grateful to my husband, who possesses a strong business acumen, as we continue to live happily together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life presents its challenges and can often resemble a rollercoaster, yet we have the ability to determine our own identities. At one stage in my life, prior to meeting my husband, I experienced significant hardship. I was unemployed, financially struggling, and had no permanent residence, relying solely on my car for shelter. I chose not to disclose this situation to my family, as I did not wish to cause them concern. It was during this difficult period that I recognized the need to return to school, regain my stability, and clarify my aspirations. This realization necessitated a well-structured plan.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am currently retired, having previously worked with several logistics companies. At that time, there were no formal educational programs for this field; experience was the key to securing a competitive salary. I began my career with a small freight forwarding company, gradually gaining knowledge and advancing to larger organizations. I dedicated over two decades to the logistics industry, progressing from entry-level positions to management roles. During this period, I also launched my Instagram page, Emmyinstyle, to share my daily outfits. I have collaborated with numerous well-known brands that I admire, sharing my experiences with my followers. Over the years, I have gained popularity by providing honest reviews of the products I use. I take pride in identifying myself as a successful woman.
I am embarking on a new hobby of watercolor painting and am currently satisfied with the results of my work. These original pieces are inspired by photographs I captured during my travels. I look forward to the opportunity to exhibit some of my paintings in a local gallery in the near future.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I am unsure about the concepts of good luck and bad luck; however, I feel fortunate to be living my life as I do now.
