Check Out Diani Greene’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diani Greene

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Brooklyn, New York and gained so much life experience because of it. I lived with my mother, Darcel Turner (a writer and dancer), and would see my father, Talib Kweli, whenever he was in town (a traveling rapper). The subject of my upbringing revolved around balance. Seeing how my mother would make something out of nothing everyday, and then seeing how my father would live luxuriously really shaped how I saw the world and how I would navigate through the music industry. My relatability to many people and lifestyles helps me to adapt to any room I enter, My parent’s taste in music is super influential to my sound, and I am always grateful for it. This is my stomping grounds, but what made me blossom was going out into the world and finally identifying as a music artist. I found a community of like-minded artists in New York like Pink Siifu, Salimata, Laila, etc and performed wherever I was offered. The good and bad experiences seasoned me and led me to where I am today, a force. I am now living in Los Angeles with my partner and 10 month old baby. This new addition to my life brings me a new sense purpose and motivation.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course there are struggles! I face imposter syndrome often, even though I know I belong. There are so many times I released something I was super proud of, and it did not get the results I wanted. I remember performing and leaving the venue very sad because I felt I didn’t do a good job. Having integrity and staying true to my message is a muscle I exercise everyday. Having a baby is beautiful, but I can be difficult to find time to write music or perform without feeling guilty (separation anxiety). This is just a short list of the bumps in my road.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a rapper, singer and event curator. Musically, I am known for my versatility and soulful sound. A far as events, I am known for throwing unforgettable events & parties that highlight local artists. I am most proud of ability to stay true to my sound and message, while not being afraid to test the waters. I am different than other artists because of my story. I have experienced in my 25 years of living and it shows in my music.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Los Angeles? I love the geography! There is mountains, desert, ocean, and city life all in one state. Where I come from, you cant get away from the city. What I like least is how much harder it is to get around without a car haha. Also, it feels like most of the artists in LA are not from LA. Sometimes there is an opportunistic vibe because of it.
