Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Verdugo-Lutz.
Hi Diana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
On April 1, 2020, I was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer. I’ve had eight chemo treatments, major surgery on September 4, 2020 which consisted of a full hysterectomy, removal of my spleen, appendix, and lymph nodes. My next chapter to this journey is maintenance therapy, which is four tablets of Lamparza (chemo pill) for the next two years. I am currently in remission as of November 2021. I have a very positive outlook on life and a strong faith in God.
By His Grace and the love and support of my husband Sammy five children & 13 grandchildren, I am a Warrior! My mission started when on the days that I would go to my five-hour chemo infusion, I came prepared with items that would help me pass the time this was during Covid, and we were not allowed to bring anybody to keep us company. I would pack many bags like I was going on a mini getaway with items, example I had my tripod ( I did live blogs daily and TikTok dances in the bathroom lol) a tablet, a coloring book, journal, blanket, socks, beanie, eye mask, I packed my breakfast lunch and of course my make up bag and mirror. The items that I would take with me helped me during that time. I also realize that there was many side effects that come with treatments I had a girlfriend who went through cancer who would share what products were helpful for her. Products like liquid IV ginger tea, ginger candies, neuropathy creams, heating pads, etc.. things that I didn’t know I needed until I needed them.. how I came up with this idea was seeing other patients that were my age or older that had nothing with them but maybe a water bottle, I thought my goal on my last chemo treatment was to create a wellness bag and bring them with me and give them to the other warriors on that day.
On November 15, my doctor informed me that I would no longer need chemo treatment and I would be taking December and January off until they came up with a medical treatment plan for me. I had already prepared 15 bags with goodies for these patients, prior to me promoting my mission on my social media platforms, I had five close friends that were going through cancer. I gave them my bags and then promoted it on my Instagram and Facebook page before you know it, I had many friends and family who reached out to me and wanted to support me with items and donations of money. This train was rolling. I did a live video promoting my bags and letting everybody know what items went in there also to inform that my bags were free!! I hand-deliver bags that are close to me and mail the rest. My donations come from friends and family some items are purchased for me and some items are handmade. I created a separate IG account for my Mission @fambambags where I share my donors, bags, and my warriors. God has blessed me abundantly to be able to give back. Currently today I have given 85 Fambamstrong wellness bags.
Mission statement is to bring hope to those going through their cancer journey. Fambamstrong wellness bags are for men women and children cancer does not discriminate. The only thing that I ask my warriors if they’re comfortable is to post a picture of them with my bag and tag me in it so that all of my friends that donate can see the smiling faces of who is receiving the bags.
Psalms. 59:9-10 You are my strength, I watch over you, you got on my fortress, my God in whom I can rely.
Diana “I am a Warrior”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My ovarian cancer journey has had more good days than bad. My doctor said I’m a poster child for cancer. For one year, I did a live Vlog seven days a week sharing how I felt a scripture and a small story about my life, that was what helped me to continue with my positive mindset and the many side effects that kept me in bed. I have had the best treatment and Drs. I have a deeper faith in God and this is what helped me to continue to be present for my friends my family and myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I was an assistant store manager of operations for Victorias Secret. I’ve been with the company for almost 14 years. I’ve managed, mentored, trained and developed many people to help inspire them to get to the next level. During my career, I was able to also be a mentor through their life journey. I am most proud that during my ovarian cancer journey many of these young men and women who are now graduated from college have reached out to me to let me know what I have done to inspire their life and choices they’re made.
