Check Out Diana Hinek’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Hinek.

Hi Diana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Verona, Italy, where my early studies in ballet, theater, and contemporary dance sparked a deep appreciation for visual beauty and the expressive power of the human body. This passion led me to pursue a BA in Film Studies and a Master’s in Digital Imaging in London. After graduating, I moved to Los Angeles and entered the visual effects industry, working as a compositor on films such as Sin City, Memoirs of a Geisha, and several Marvel superhero productions.

While my work in film nurtured my artistic vision, a deeper calling began to emerge after the birth of my second child. I felt a profound shift and a growing desire to be in service to the transformative journey of birth. I became a birth doula within the vibrant Los Angeles birth community and soon realized that my visual storytelling had found its true home: in documenting the raw, sacred, and life-altering moments of labor and new life through certified birth photography.

My transition from film to birth work wasn’t just professional—it was deeply personal and spiritual. Throughout my upbringing in Italy, I had the privilege of encountering many healers who left an imprint on my path. In my early twenties, I was introduced to craniosacral therapy, which opened my eyes to the profound connection between physical healing and spiritual awakening. Over the past 20 years, I’ve explored a range of healing modalities that not only supported my health but also guided me through layers of personal transformation and self-understanding.

Birthing my four children solidified an unshakable truth: we are not merely bodies, but intricate fields of energy. When our energetic systems are blocked or out of sync, our emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being can be impacted. At the end of 2022, I enrolled in IPSB—the Institute of Psycho-Structural Bodywork—where I immersed myself in Polarity Therapy, Sacral Unwinding, and Quantum Holistic Medicine. Through the teachings of Dr. Randolph Stone, Dr. Franklyn Sills, and Dr. John Upledger, I have deepened my practice in harmonizing the body’s energy systems and attuning to the divine frequencies of healing touch.

Today, I stand at the intersection of art, healing, and birth—bringing together decades of visual storytelling, intuitive bodywork, and a reverence for the sacredness of life. My work is a devotion to honoring the human experience in all its vulnerability, power, and beauty.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to where I am now has been anything but linear. One of my greatest challenges has been balancing my deep desire to grow—both personally and professionally—while remaining fully present for my children and their ever-evolving needs. I fell so deeply in love with them that I didn’t want to miss a thing: not a school recital, not a birthday, not a field trip. And while my work as a birth doula and bodyworker offers a certain flexibility, being on call comes with a heavy weight. When the phone rings, I have to drop everything—sometimes for hours or even days—with no certainty of when I’ll return. That constant state of readiness requires backup plans, especially when my husband is traveling for work, which is often.

Going back to school after COVID to study various forms of bodywork felt like a breath of fresh air—a reclaiming of something for myself. And yet, even now, I’m not quite sure how I managed to complete 550 hours of massage school, alongside hundreds more in craniosacral therapy training. What carried me through was the support of my peers and the deep friendships I formed—people who understood the path I was walking and reminded me that I wasn’t alone.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a multifaceted birth worker based in Los Angeles, offering support through various stages of the perinatal journey. My work includes birth and postpartum doula care, massage therapy, craniosacral therapy, and professional birth photography and videography. I specialize in holding space for families during one of the most transformative moments of their lives—whether through the emotional support of doula work, the healing touch of bodywork, or capturing the raw beauty of birth through a trained visual lens.

What I’m most known for is my ability to merge my deep sensitivity, artistic eye, and embodied presence into everything I offer. I come from a background in visual arts and film—having worked in the visual effects industry before transitioning into birth work. That experience, combined with my lifelong interest in somatic healing, allows me to approach each client with a unique blend of creativity, intuition, and grounded skill.

What sets me apart is the way I integrate it all. I don’t just show up for a birth or a session—I meet people where they are, with reverence for the full spectrum of their experience: physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual. I’m proud of the trust my clients place in me, and of the many families who invite me into their most sacred spaces again and again.

And if there’s one thing I’m most proud of, it’s that I’ve managed to build this work slowly and intentionally, in a way that honors both my calling and my family. I’ve raised four children while growing a business that reflects who I am on every level—and that feels like the most meaningful accomplishment of all.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is taking the overnight train with my family to visit my uncle in Calabria, in the south of Italy. My mom, brother, grandmother, and I would board the train in Verona as the sun set, settling into our little cabin for the long journey ahead. I still remember the gentle sway of the train rocking us to sleep, and the soft voice of my grandmother waking us in the early morning, whispering that we could see the sea from the window. That moment—rubbing my eyes, peeking out to catch the first glimpse of the ocean—has stayed with me ever since. It’s etched into my memory like a postcard from my childhood.
