Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Anthony Lansdowne.
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been an actress/voice actress for over 40 years. I started pursuing my career when I was 18 years old and I’m grateful to say, I’m still a working performer. I began my career acting in on-camera commercials in San Diego California with my very first agent Nanci Washburn, we are still dear friends. I was cast in a lot of on-camera commercials as a comedic actress, I was told I was the second Lucy! (what an honor) I also modeled part-time and loved it. I later moved to LA to pursue my dream in the big city and that’s where I met my husband. He was a talented singer who played acoustic guitar and I fell for him & his beautiful voice, later I had one daughter and she is also a very active voice actress, we laugh because we sometimes get the same audition.
Doors started opening for me! It was very exciting, my new agent loved me and kept me quite active doing voice acting! Lots of toys, and then animation! I was cast as the host of the longest-running Radio drama, Adventures in Odyssey! We are still recording the show 35 years later, and thank God, I’m still the host!
It was 1994 when I was cast for the voice of an Icon, Barbie! Mattel really never had an established voice for her until I was cast in 1994, and what a wild ride it was for me! For almost ten years, we recorded every toy imaginable with my voice in it as Barbie! Teacher Barbie, Dentist Barbie, Super Talk Barbie, working women Barbie, Spanish speaking Barbie, the list is endless.
I voiced all her CD Roms (yes CD Roms haha) Barbie wasn’t in the video game world but we broke into it with Barbie Fashion Designer, Barbie Story Maker, Magic Hair Styler, Barbie riding club, and on & on! I was in the studio every day, I loved calling sick little girls as Barbie just so they had a friend to talk to, it was a very special time for me.
I’m grateful for every day I’m alive and have the opportunity to work in this crazy business. I’ve always felt that everyone’s journey is their own and to never compare to anyone else.
If you ever see me at a gathering, I most likely won’t be in the room with the adults I’ll be in the room with all the kids…. that’s where my heart is, being a kid. My hope is to inspire people to be free to be you!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Its never a smooth road for any business, but I try my best to always say, “Theirs always a lesson to learn in your mistakes”.
After being cast as the voice for Barbie for 10 years they wanted to change her sound, I had to be grateful for my body of work and say thank you, accept the change and let go. It’s part of this crazy business you need to be good at. haha
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
If anyone has need of a voice-over actress to add some warmth, creativity and professionalism to their project, whether it be a commercial, a video game, or even a talking toy, I’m your girl. I love what I do, and for 40 years, others have too!
