Check Out Brad Alden Mowry’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Alden Mowry.

Brad Alden Mowry

Hi Brad, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My story is not conventional. I went to school for music – met a man who was one of the pioneers of stone washing in Los Angeles. He was a very successful man with 4-5 large denim processing plants who became a mentor or even more of a second father to me.

He offered me a job when I had my first child as I needed health insurance.

After a tour of the denim laundry – I was fascinated with the processing. How the creative and technical merge to make a product. The scientific and the artistic unite. It’s very much like music. I found an immediate excitement for the garment processing world and dove all the way. I learned everything from shipping & receiving, to facility maintenance, on to eventually learn chemical formulations, production procedures, costing, operations, and also fabric and garment quality protocols. All along I thought this job was a “day gig” with benefits for my kid, so I could gig at night and weekends.

One day, a Fortune 500 company from NYC offered me a job. I was shocked. ME? I am a musician/songwriter with a fish tank and an acoustic guitar who thinks denim processing is cool.

Anyway – that lead to becoming a Vice President of Wet Processing for 7 years in NYC. I supported designers from 19 brands with developments, process costing, shrinkage evaluations, procedure writing, and garment quality. I traveled to over 40 countries for either product development, quality, or production facility visits. If my initial years at the LA denim processing plant was my internship and degree in DENIM/Fashion 101 – This season was kind of like the practical master’s degree in business, apparel processing, fashion, merchandising, management, and all things associated.

I moved back to LA and eventually started my own company Artisan Cloth Inc – partnered with some of what I think are the greatest fabric makers in the world. The extensive global development and production experience makes for really a product company. At the end we sell fabric. But we think of what we do as building great relationships, and products with, and for our clients to help them succeed. The combination of experience, relationships, and great suppliers has proven to be a successful recipe in denim fashion. We love to see our clients succeed. To get to be a small part of that is an incredible joy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Tenacity is a must. The most successful people are those who see failure as a gift. To get to learn from setbacks or challenges, get up, revise, and return better. The fashion and fabric world is a marathon, not a sprint. There is no such thing as a hit-and-run success.

I guess we have encountered many struggles, I’ve lost count – but I’d call them opportunities at this point because we always learn, and we always grow – and rise to new levels. It is a blessing to walk through a setback to the other side better than you started!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a professional musician and a worship leader. So, my approach to anything I do is creative. Even though our core business with Artisan Cloth is marketing and sales – we focus on developing great product, creative relationships, excellent service and that turns into return business, and growth.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That my wife and I are song writers, creative arts fanatics, and music ministers who spend all of our time when not working with Artisan Cloth serving Jesus with our time and talents. My wife and I lead worship, and minister to thousands of people through music every weekend, and online through our church and music ministry.

We are not religious – we are redeemed, and blessed to have a relationship with a living God – it’s the core of who we are and everything we do personal, and professional.
