Check Out Asunta Fleming’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Asunta Fleming.

Hi Asunta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started age 14 in debate plays and musicals it was probably landing the iconic role of Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz in Kansas started it all.
I studied voice with Metropolitan Opera artist Barbara Dahlor at Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance at Staley Studios.
A move to Florida in my senior year where they didn’t have a debate team but I landed the lead in every show and that brought me college scholarships encouraged me to take it seriously as a future. Then I landed the role of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz again and that brought me wonderful reviews and quite bit of acclaim. I accepted a scholarship to Rollins College in Winter Park majoring in vocal performance. That led proximity wise to a contract with Walt Disney World as a coveted Kid of The Kingdom elite performers in the Entertainment division touring and opening big Los Vegas style productions
A really thrilling experience and working with tremendous talents many future Broadway stars and of. Course Disney stars and legendary composers and choreographers
From there I was invited repeatedly to further my acting training at Burt Reynolds Institute of Theatre working with more legends Burt Reynolds Julie Harris Vincent Gardenia Alan Arkin George Chakiris Leonard Frey Cindy Williams Annie Potts Fannie Flagg Charkes Nelson Reilly Charles Durning just legends
I got my equity card after that year of shows and headed to Texas landing the host of the travel channel-as well as working in film and theater. It was in the role as my hosting of the travel channel that led me to Los Angeles to pursue film on television. I spent the next year doing equity waiver theater in LA as well as landing parts on shows like Divorce Court, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. As a:singer i sang on feature film scores and I landed a spec deal with Capitol Records in country music taking me to Nashville to record and later headlining in Cabaret throughout Los Angeles

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I seemed to have amazing opportunity I worked for but there was almost too much opportunity
I would be under contract for one thing when another bigger opportunity would come along and I would pass on the career making opportunities to be responsible to the production I was engaged in. Literally the Story of my life
I had a serious #metoo situation. Before me too was a thing. In that day you either walked through the door or you walked away-I of course chose the latter.
Another big break I’d worked for years came just as I found out I was pregnant and lost a twin and had to lie down for 6 months to hold on to my daughter
Then when I had returned to performing with huge opportunities my daughter became very ill and I pulled out of everything to return home and saved her life again when I was really doing some wonderful projects in Los Angeles she became stricken with a malady and I poured all my energy into getting her through it over 3 years then just when things were improving and life looked like I could go back to performing and I was auditioning in LA and New York with exciting possibilities she sustained a traumatic brain injury in her dance show and it has been a decade of challenges!
Well, a lifetime!! In the meantime I have poured my energy into my artists and have created wonderful talents healed a lot of hearts and created opportunities for others.
