Check Out Ashante Lanay’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashante Lanay.

Hi Ashante, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
So I was born and raised in East St.Louis Illinois, but I moved to LA in 2020 during the pandemic in my van. I drove across the country and I have to say it was the craziest thing I have ever done. I was only 19 by the way and I moved with no plan, barely any money, and alone. I was very naive when I moved here but it was the best decision I have ever made for myself and I am a much different person now.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth, it has been a struggle. Financially especially for me because I moved to LA with no savings and I don’t come from money. I think putting yourself out there and trusting yourself is the best way to success and will help you stay afloat. Also, patience which is something I’m still struggling with, it will help you in the long run.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am overall a visual artist. have a portfolio of photographs and one short film. I am proud of all of my work because I am not perfect at what I do so for me to create anything or even get out of my comfort zone and take photos of someone, makes me super proud of myself. What sets me apart from others I think, is that I simply do what I want when I want. I do not rush my work or have one specific type of style, I just have fun with what I do.

What matters most to you? Why?
My happiness, my joy, my authenticity, my experiences, my family and loved ones. Without those, I could not be an artist or the person that I am today.
