Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Tuason.
Hi Anthony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first started my professional performing career in 2007 when I was hired as a dancer at the Happiest Place on Earth, Disneyland. I danced at Disney for about eight years in several different parades and shows. I was also teaching at a few different studios in Southern Orange County. I have built my brand as a dance teacher throughout Southern OC and surrounding areas. I have taught dance at several local high schools. I spent several years performing in several different dance shows and musicals from 2007-2019. In 2017, I wanted to make a switch and focus more on the creative side of dance. I wanted to focus my time as more of a choreographer.
I started manifesting and putting myself in the rooms and in front of the right people. My main focus was choreographing musicals. I reached out to local theaters and high schools that produced musicals and sent my resume to anyone and everyone that would give me a chance. As of today, since my switch to musical theater, I have choreographed several different musicals in Orange County and LA County. One of my favorite musicals I got to choreograph is “In The Heights” at Long Beach Playhouse. Currently, I am working on RENT at Long Beach Playhouse and also Addams Family with Inland Valley Reparatory Theater at Lewis Family Playhouse. I am looking to broaden my horizons and hope to one day choreograph a show on Broadway!!!!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Whoa…….. definitely NOT a smooth road for me. I have fought so hard to get to where I am at today!!!! One of the biggest struggles for me along the way was not having all the support I needed. I’ve always felt like I wasn’t ever good enough. It wasn’t until the past two years where I started feeling like this is what I am supposed to be doing. I am feeling more motivated than ever.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a choreographer. I choreograph musicals. One thing that sets me apart from others is that I try to make sure every room or environment I step in is an experience for everyone. I want my dancers or anyone I teach to feel welcome and part of something special.
One thing that I say I am known for is my ability to make non-dancers look like dancers. I have a knack for finding what each and every individual is capable of doing and running with that.
I am most proud of being able to inspire and motivate dancers and performers of all ages.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Simply to live life because tomorrow is never promised.
