Check Out Anthony Cabrera’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Cabrera.

Hi Anthony, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Anthony Cabrera, also known as Bboy Omen, is forty-two years old. Both of his parents are of Dominican descent, and he lived in the Dominican Republic for about six years before moving to the United States, where he grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts in the early nineties.

At that time, Lynn had a heavy gang presence in the community. To avoid that influence, Anthony looked for alternative outlets. He started with boxing in middle school, then moved into football in high school. Eventually, those paths led him to his true passion: breakdancing. One of the most impactful moments in that journey was watching a bboy group called Lords of Illusion practice live. After that, he was hooked.

After his first paid show, Anthony realized something many people never get to experience: getting paid to do what you love. It changed everything for him. He had found something he loved doing, and quickly realized he could build a career and an income around it. Since then, he has invested everything into perfecting his craft.

That craft has taken him around the world. He performed with The Urban Phunk Spectacular, a Broadway show from the early two thousands that later became an off-Broadway production, touring the United States. He performed with Carnival Cruise Lines as part of the cast of Far From Over, an eighties-themed theater show. In around 2007, he moved to Miami with his best friend and crewmate, Robert Richard Bell, also known as Bboy Fantum. Together they founded an entertainment company called Raw Miami Entertainment, giving young dancers and artists opportunities to work corporate events, TV shows, bar mitzvahs, weddings, and other special events. They ran the company for about five years before liquidating it to pursue other paths. Robert went on to pursue stunt work in California.

Anthony then had the honor of joining Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba at Disney World in Orlando as one of the show’s breakdancers. From there, he performed in the Hip Hop Nutcracker, starring the godfather of hip hop, Kurtis Blow. More recently, he’s worked with major artists including Rauw Alejandro on his 2023 Saturno world tour, LL Cool J, Eladio Carrion, and other high-profile projects.

Looking ahead, Anthony has much more he wants to accomplish. He believes hard work, commitment, and dedication are what built the life he loves — and he’s not done building yet.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The path wasn’t always steady, though. Dance work comes in seasons — there are stretches when the bookings are steady, and stretches when they’re not. Anthony auditioned for plenty of jobs he didn’t book, and there were times he had to take on regular jobs he didn’t love, just to stay afloat and keep himself available for the bigger opportunities when they came. That instability is part of the reality of building a career as a dancer, and pushing through it is what made the wins that followed mean so much more.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What I do currently is what they call a stunt acrobat — not just a stuntman, but a dancer as well. Most of the time when I get hired, it’s either to dance behind an artist or to perform stunts for TV and film. I specialize in tumbling and dance choreography. I’m known for my work ethic, my competitive drive, and my fashion, but what I’m most proud of is my consistency. I’ve been dancing since I was twelve, over thirty years of dedication, and what sets me apart from others is my dedication to a high standard.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is to have fun as humans we have a short lifespan life can get crazy so we all have to be aware and grounded enough to make sure that we’re having fun and enjoying the journey with family and loved ones
