Check Out Amar Sotomayor’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amar Sotomayor.

Hi Amar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a working actress, singer, model and content creator from Puerto Rico. There’s so much talented people and competition in P.R. that you learn to do almost everything.

I moved in May 2018 from my hometown Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria strike us in 2017. I’ve always dream to work in Hollywood as an actress and model and who knew that that terrible disaster would push me from my comfort zone to LA.

I moved my car too and I picked it up in Florida and I drove all the way to California. I stay in 2 different Airbnbs in 2 weeks while I was looking for a place to rent. I found it and started immediately to look for work and around a week I booked my first job as an extra in a Kasey Musgrave music video in the Fox Studios and that was the beginning of my dream in LA.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being away from home, my family and the people that I love has been one of the hardest challenges. Also living with housemates and people you don’t know that well is hard when you are used to live alone.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actress, singer, model and content creator. I’ve been working in the Entertainment Industry since I was 17 and started as a dancer with different artists in my hometown Puerto Rico. After that I began singing in a duo called No Name and having my first pop dance CD “Come and Dance”. After that I went solo and started experimenting with underground dance music singing with different DJ’s. Later on started modeling and working in TV doing mostly comedy sketches in different tv shows. I love comedy and also I love working in theatre and writing songs. I just love expressing myself through the arts depending on the opportunities I have at the moment and they’re all important to me. I’m proud of being Puerto Rican and representing through the arts my people around the world. I had the opportunity to work in American Horror Story – New York as Farrah and the experience was overwhelming. Just being there with so many amazing talented people was out of this world. Also did a Crocs national campaign “Came as you are” and was amazing because I was being myself, as a proud Caribbean/latina trans woman from Puerto Rico creating visibility for others. That makes me very proud. Many people from the LGBTQ + community that came before helped me be visible and we have to pay it forward for the younger generations.

How do you think about happiness?
To love! My name is Amar, that means “To Love” in Spanish! So love is what makes me very happy! God, My family, my loved ones, my Puerto Rico, my angels. Why? The love I have for my people, my Puerto Rico it’s overwhelming and the love I received it’s unexplainable. Just being alive in this human experience and having the opportunity to be myself, be visible and help other makes me so blessed and happy!
Also I created in my different social media platforms “Ángeles de Amar” and with that page I read private and public weekly angel oracle cards with loving messages to the people that follows me. The feedback is amazing and makes me happy to try to help others with positive messages from the angels that I love so much.
