Today we’d like to introduce you to Adeleh Yarmohammadi.
Hi Adeleh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Adeleh Yarmohammadi, and I go by “Dr.Adele”. I am an ophthalmologist on a quest to marry art and science. Art and ophthalmology are my two passions in life, and I feel they are simultaneously distinct, while at the same time, are complementary. Since childhood, observing the world and expressing myself through my canvas has helped me expand both my emotional intelligence and empathy for others. However, as much as I was drawn to art, there was an immense passion deep inside me to become a doctor for I have always wanted to be able to help individuals in their most vulnerable circumstances. Upon entering medical school, I wanted to find a way to apply the skills I had developed as an artist toward a career in medicine. While enjoying all my rotations, ophthalmology impressed me the most. This field struck both my intellectual curiosity, and commitment to my patients, furthermore, I found ophthalmology a specialty where the lines of art and medicine blend together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a doctor entails a lot of sacrifices, many exams, lots of sleepless nights but all the hard work to change people’s lives brings immense joy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a fellowship trained board certified ophthalmologist. I do a variety of anterior segment surgeries including cataract, glaucoma, LASIK and facial aesthetic procedures. Growing up as an artist and further training as an ophthalmologist I always loved to marry the two concepts of art and ophthalmology. In my surgical career, I look forward to blending these two paradigms. Understanding my patients’ visual and aesthetic needs and using my skills as both an artist and a surgeon to improve their quality of life brings me great satisfaction.
What were you like growing up?
Athletic and artistic, social. Loved friendships and still in love with making friends. To this date, I still very much enjoy human interaction aspect of practicing medicine and I consider every new patient interaction as a unique opportunity to make a new friends.
