Check Out Mary Nguyen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Nguyen.

Hi Mary, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I used to be miserable, with no direction or purpose. It wasn’t until 2020 that I truly learned how beautiful it is to be alone but feel so whole at the same time. Whenever I feel like life gets overwhelming, I go to the beach or I imagine myself there. I feel the worries wash away with the waves. It’s my happy place because it reminds me of how good God is and how I am simply living in His world. The beach is a symbol of ultimate self-care for me, something that I lacked for most of my life. I would try to fill my soul for 18 years of my life with empty things and cope terribly by holding onto things that were no longer serving me, but I have found that self-care is life-changing!

When you treat your body like a temple, fill your mind with good things, nourish your soul with the truth of what God says… you get to truly live not simply survive. I started by letting go and letting God. No matter how many times the waves go back and forth, it always comes back to shore… and we can always come back to God. There is a light at the end of your darkest moments and I feel called to share that light now, especially online through pictures and videos of my life that can reach thousands of people with just one click. I am still on the journey to being my best self because we all have more growing to do, but this is how I got to where I am today. Letting go little by little, each day, of anything that is holding me back from the calling that God has for my life, which is to help people towards their best selves too!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everything is a process and it’s never linear; it’s the furthest thing from smooth! We will always be faced with challenges that are molding us into the person we are meant to be. Without the learning opportunities (because there’s no such thing as failure), we wouldn’t be able to move past our comfort zone into our purpose. Some of my struggles along the way are doubt, comparison, self-limiting beliefs, and letting go of the past. I realized that I can be my worst critic when it comes to the work that I do and I have so much growth to do, but I have to remember the place that God brought me out from. I still find myself battling these things from time to time, but it’s okay to have these struggles because it’s only human. It’s how you move forward from it that truly matters!

Whenever I face these obstacles, I stay still and breathe, knowing that God is in control. We are exactly where we are meant to be right now. I believe that there is always going to be a breakthrough after your breakdown! God also blessed with me such a supportive system of people to help me through all of the obstacles and challenges along the way, especially my sister Kris, my parents, my amazing friends, therapist, and my loving community! I would not be where I am today without them. You are never alone through anything. There is no shame in reaching out for help when you need it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently focused on creating faith-based self-care content on TikTok by showing videos of my lifestyle, giving spiritual advice, and practical tips to be your best self. I’m also helping people release and work through things that no longer serve them in my new podcast Let Go & Live with my friend Daphne! I believe that there are so many things that can still be weighing us down such as doubt, comparison, self-limiting beliefs, and much more. By sharing our relatable experiences from a spiritual perspective and showing how no one is ever alone through these struggles, we can all work towards being who we are called to be!

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Of course, there is always that fear of failure in the back of your head when taking risks. However, I have started to realize that there is nothing scarier than regret, than looking back at your life when you are on your bed at 80 years old, wishing you did more, wishing you loved more, wishing you lived more. I’ve made it a personal goal to take more risks this year. I started by putting myself out there on social media and sharing vulnerable content that inspires people to reflect on their lives and how they can continue to grow too. I always had deep stories to share and thoughts that I would say to myself, but having it be said out onto social media was definitely a risk. You never know who is going to judge you or how people will react, but I have come to realize that none of the judgment matters anyway.

Why would you let the opinions that people have of you for a few seconds determine the course of your entire life? For me, the only opinion that matters is how God thinks of me, so live to please Him not people… your Creator is the only one who can define you. He called you to your purpose and you need to overcome that voice in the back of your head telling you it’s not possible because there are people who need your light! If you are afraid of taking that risk, of going for that dream, of what people may think if you do, remember that the biggest risk of all is not living to your fullest potential and purpose. God gave you this one life, how are you living it?
