Meet Dalea (Lea) Rundblad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dalea (Lea) Rundblad.

Lea, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a vegan American Latina who loves creating, music, color and art. I am a photographer at Dalea Studios, a recording artist at Dalea Music, and the founder of Girl Comet, an Inspiration and Information campaign.

I created Girl Comet in 2014, and my intention was to simply spread information and understanding about my condition (called Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome or A.I.S.). I went through a very tough time as a child and teen, due to ignorance, bullying and bad medical help. This condition is plagued with controversy, for example, I was born without a uterus and I have XY chromosomes. As a kid, I did not have any examples of other women like myself, so with Girl Comet, I wanted to be the girl I needed back then, for girls and women now.

Girl Comet has since evolved to also be a sort of light-tower, committed to emblazon inspiration, and to promoting information that contributes to the betterment of the human race.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
FOR MY PHOTOGRAPHY
I love to do snap people’s essence, and get something more than the usual poses, colors or retouching du-jour. For my subjects, I transform myself in to a comedian, so that they can relax and so that I can get the best and most real out of them. I hope when people see my photos, they take away honesty and a glimpse of the essence of my subjects.

FOR MY MUSIC
I tend to write songs that speak of the human spirit, endurance and perseverance. Of not giving up, and of dreaming away in-to action, for a better future. In my latest album, VISITOR, I also touch on the current situation with our planet, pollution and social responsibility, from the point of view of a visitor from a distant planet. My look is kind of futuristic, definitely fashion driven. I think it is rooted in my background as a former fashion designer in New York City (DKNY, Victoria’s Secret, Vanity Fair) My wish is for my listeners to go somewhere special in their minds when they listen to my songs, to free them from concern, at least for a little while, one song at a time.

FOR GIRL COMET
Well, I just hope it continues to help spread fair and simple A.I.S. information, especially for Latinas, which are affected really harshly emotionally due to some cultural boundaries. I also hope GC continues to be a candle of inspiration and motivation. We should all aspire to be part of the solution, not the problem.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I define success as being able to create your art without compromising whom you are. Resisting doing something the way others are doing it, just because it is what your management demands or because you think that is what will guarantee your own success.

In my opinion, the biggest mistake I see, artists offering the same look, product, song, voice, story or you name it, as others. Originality is risky and scary, there are no guarantees, but it is also the only way to make your own real honest mark in this planet.

Also, if one defines success purely in a monetary fashion, well, then it does not really matter what work we do, does it? Because we would be already sacrificing soul for money… that is in effect spiritual suicide, to me. One may become monetarily successful, but a failure spiritually.

I believe that when we are born, we are all meant to express our unique highest version of ourselves, and owe it to ourselves to honor our true calling.
