We recently had the chance to connect with RL Clark and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning RL, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m most proud of the creative courage I’ve built. People see the finished children’s books, but they don’t see the self doubt I’ve learned to silence, the confidence I’ve grown, or the persistence behind every story.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello everyone! I’m R.L Clark
I’m a children’s book author from Inglewood, CA and I’ve turned my love for my children and my passion for art into stories I’m excited to share with the world. What started as little moments of inspiration at home has grown into a heartfelt mission to create books that spark imagination, celebrate family, and remind children just how magical they are. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to bring my creativity to life through writing, and I can’t wait for you and your little ones to join me on this journey.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I once believed as a child that my imagination was just for fun. Now I know it’s one of my greatest strengths. That the same imagination helps me create stories that young readers can see themselves in.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. I’ve had moments where giving up felt easier, but pushing through changed me for the better.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends and family would tell you that I care deeply about my family, my community, and creating meaningful work. Whether it’s writing for children or showing up for the people in my life, they know I’m guided by purpose.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope the story people tell is that I lived with intention. That I used my gifts to uplift others, tell meaningful stories, and show my kids what it looks like to follow a dream with courage.
