Today we’d like to introduce you to Zack Hurley and Jesse Dombrowiak.
Zack and Jesse, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Every year, thousands of people decide that starting a fashion business is their calling. Whether they are moms from Idaho making children’s swimwear, engineers from Silicon Valley creating activewear, or FIT students creating women’s contemporary fashion; they all go through the same stages of design, development and production to get to market. Yet, despite the enormous number of these businesses emerging each year, the infrastructure that supports them is terribly archaic and makes it difficult for these entrepreneurs to get their businesses off the ground.
We built Indie Source as a solution for emerging brands lacking experience in navigating complex supply chains and bringing products to market. Instead of high factory minimums and dirty warehouses, we offer low minimums in a clean space in downtown Los Angeles where we promote our workers and their craftsmanship. Most importantly, we offer emerging fashion brands the space to focus on the creative components of their collections by allowing us to manage the technical development and manufacturing. Our clients work with a team of production managers, sourcing specialists, patternmakers and sample makers to bring their visions to life.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have dealt with many people who have swindled us over the years and made it very difficult. Apparel manufacturing is an underground world and building structure and systems in a world like this has been very challenging. However, the more structure we build the more stable we become and the more we separate ourselves from our competitors.
Please tell us about Indie Source.
We have grown 200% YOY since 2014 and have had the delight of supporting over 200 brands many of whom are now exploding in growth, such as Khloe Kardashian’s Good American, Frame, Sol Angeles and Beaufort Bonnet. Not only do we get to create American jobs but as each of our brands grow they themselves create jobs in different sectors across design, distribution, retail, etc.
Indie Source takes the complicated and scary process of launching a fashion line and makes it accessible for anyone to enter and win in the fashion business.
