Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Browne.
Kelly, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Southern California and grew up harvesting vegetables from our family garden and picking fresh fruit off our backyard trees with my six brothers and sisters. Making dinner every night was a family affair in our home and I have countless memories of chopping and peeling and dicing and stirring and sampling foods from all our family recipes in our warm, cozy kitchen. My mom makes the most delicious homemade nectarine cake.
Family meals at home were an incredibly impactful part of my childhood and upbringing. These experiences around the table instilled a sense of community and belonging and curiosity into my life that shape the person I am today.
I co-created Kitchen Table App to bring people together over a shared love of good food and great company, wherever you are. In a time when it’s possible to have virtually anything delivered or defrosted, Kitchen Table App provides a way to share home-cooked meals with friends, neighbors, and newcomers wherever you live in whatever space you have. No matter what you chose to make, getting together gives people the chance to laugh, share stories, engage with others, and make meaningful personal connections. I believe that sharing food in this way has the potential to reshape communities on the local level.
Has it been a smooth road?
Developing and creating Kitchen Table App has been incredibly rewarding, but there are always challenges in taking an idea you have in your mind to creating a prototype and a sustainable business model. One hurdle I’ve faced is the overwhelmingly positive reaction to our concept, followed abruptly by the resistance because the person may not have a large dining room table in their home. Helping people reimagine a gathering of friends and neighbors for a meal in any size or shaped space they have has been such a fun way to collaborate with our users from the start.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Kitchen Table App is rooted in community: we are neighbors, friends, colleagues, classmates, teammates, fans, and newcomers. We believe that we can create real and sustainable change in social behavior in neighborhoods and communities around the world–a world where people share in homemade meals around each other’s tables, where people invite neighbors and strangers and members of their community over for dinner, where people gather to support a cause or a non-profit organization or a school or an artist that they believe in.
Kitchen Table App is about bringing friends and neighbors together to share in memorable dining experiences that may start at the kitchen table, but extend beyond the table to authentic and meaningful friendships near and far.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is the second largest city in the United States and is shaped by culture, diversity, intellectual curiosity, activism, environmental awareness, entrepreneurship, ambition, and a healthy dose of competition. If the diversity of individuals and marketplace meets the goals of your business, I would recommend entrepreneurs to start here.
Los Angeles is also a place where people dream. And that gives people the chance to continue dreaming. I love Victor Hugo’s, “dream no small dreams.”

I’ve enjoyed taking my lady to several Kitchen Table events. The hosts and hostesses each create their own unique experience. The food is always a rewarding adventure but unlike a restaurant you get to meet and engage in a fun and interesting conversation with the other guests. You have to go to one to really see what it’s all about. You (and your special someone) will be glad you did.
