Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Brasil. They and their team shared their story with us below:
From the sun-kissed beaches of Rio de Janeiro to the star-studded streets of Los Angeles, Carolina Camara’s journey has been nothing short of cinematic. Growing up in a small town in Bahia, Brazil, Camara cultivated a spirit of resilience and creativity from an early age. Despite facing bullying for her individuality and distinctive style, she was supported by her parents, who instilled in her the strength to pursue her dreams. This foundation of tenacity and support propelled her into a series of successful entrepreneurial ventures, starting with a ballet studio at a young age when she graduated from the Royal Academy of London. The decision to create her own Ballet studio was taken by a young Carolina at this time, showing her entrepreneurial blood in her veins; in less than 3 years, she achieved the main point of success with 180 students. Years later, she sold her studio and left for the US for her new adventure. Camara, in her odyssey from ballet studio magnate to fashionista du jour, never settled. Her brand hit the runways with the kind of splash usually reserved for rock stars and tech IPOs. Despite having the design skills of a novice and no experience in patterns for designing clothes —which, let’s be honest, might still qualify her as a top designer on some New York runways—she took another smart step and apply for University of Fashion designer where she learned the ropes, patterns Techniques and so much more giving her more confidence to become Carolina Brazil the Fashion designer that turned heads from Florida to the Nolcha New York Fashion Week.
Camara’s transition from the ballet stages and fashion runways to the competitive arena of independent film production in the United States is a narrative of transformation and defiance. In an industry that echoes the macho-man ethos of Wall Street, with its ruthless competitiveness and often dismissive attitude toward feminine energy, Camara has managed to carve out a space for her unique voice. The independent film scene, notorious for its “swimming with sharks” mentality and winner-take-all approach, has been an unforgiving battleground for many. Yet, Camara, with her lady-like graces and unyielding spirit, has navigated these turbulent waters with remarkable grace and acumen.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Transitioning from a celebrated fashion designer to an indie film producer in Hollywood is no small feat. It entails not only a shift in profession but also a profound cultural and industry-specific adjustment. The challenges are amplified for someone like Camara, whose presence embodies a blend of characteristics that diverge from the archetypal image of a film producer in Hollywood’s male-dominated landscape. Despite her significant contributions, including bringing seed money to projects and securing high-value actors for distribution deals, Camara has faced skepticism and underestimation. Her experiences at meetings and on set reveal an unsettling reality: a persistent undercurrent of bias that questions her competence based on her gender and heritage rather than her proven track record and capabilities.
However, Camara’s story is not solely one of obstacles but also of achievement and inspiration. Her vision and determination have led to the creation of a production company that stands as a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and her commitment to the art of filmmaking. Camara’s approach to producing—centered on collaboration, sharing, and fostering a team united by a common vision—reflects a broader shift towards inclusivity and respect for diverse perspectives in the industry.
Yet, our heroine Camara isn’t just surviving; she’s rewriting and flipping the script. In an industry where a woman’s input is often welcomed with all the enthusiasm of a tax audit, Camara has not only held her ground but has started to move the earth beneath her feet.
She’s the mastermind behind bringing in the seed money, snagging the A-listers that make distributors swoon, and proving, deal after deal, that luck has absolutely nothing to do with it.
What’s remarkable here isn’t just that Camara is navigating these waters while preserving her “lady-like graces,” as if the indie film business cares one iota about grace. No, it’s that she’s doing it with the kind of flair and unapologetic confidence that has the old guard looking over their shoulders, wondering if they missed the memo on the new rules of the game.
In a business where the phrase “It’s not personal, it’s just business” is often the polite prelude to a knife in the back, Camara has maintained her ethos of sharing and team building. It’s a novel approach in an industry that typically views collaboration with the same skepticism reserved for “free lunch” offers.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Stone Horus Media?
Carolina Camara’s saga isn’t just a feel-good story for the underdog supporters; it’s a neon sign pointing to the shifting sands of power in Hollywood. In the end, Camara’s journey from the ballet bars of London to the indie film sets of LA underscores a timeless truth: the most disruptive force in any industry isn’t technology or even money—it’s a relentless belief in one’s own vision, come hell or high water. And Camara’s track record of shepherding over a half-dozen films in the past two years through the Hollywood maze shows she’s adept at skippering the rough oceans that have wrecked many before her. Some Productions, she is involved only behind of behind the scenes and putting together deals to make the projects happen, but probably she is not the one that will get the claps and glitters for that, and it’s ok because her mind is all about bringing deals to the table.
Interviewing Carolina, I could feel her smile and excitement telling me about the experience of sharing Projects aside with other Producers and how fascinated it is to learn in every single Project.
She says: I just want to learn how to be better and better and make sure everyone is Happy on my Set!
She already filmed 2 movies in 2024, and it’s in post-production right now, but her goal is to make 5 movies this Year.
Aside from movies, she is creating a new business that she doesn’t want to talk too much about, but she mentioned real estate deals that she was involved in in the past and is now.
As Camara continues to build her legacy in the film industry, she not only challenges the stereotypes and barriers that women, particularly those of Latina heritage, face but also illuminates a path for others to follow. Her journey underscores the importance of perseverance, integrity, and the relentless pursuit of one’s dreams, regardless of the challenges that lie ahead.
Indeed, in a world still grappling with gender and cultural biases, Carolina Camara’s ascent in the indie film industry serves as a beacon of hope and a call to action. It urges us to reconsider our perceptions of leadership and creativity and to embrace the richness that diversity brings to storytelling and the cinematic arts. As Camara’s star continues to rise, her narrative offers a compelling reminder of the transformative power of believing in oneself, pursuing a healthy balance in life, and the enduring impact of bringing one’s whole self to every endeavor.
What matters most to you?
Just ask Carolina. “What matters most for me is to be alive and have a healthy mind making sure I can bring value to my business partners and to the larger world,” she said during a recent meeting. “It’s not just about me but also about elevating the people with me; helping them to achieve is my biggest achievement,” she concluded.
But has something in her voice that also wants to say something and hesitates for a moment…
I want to be in Love again!
“Completamente” she says some words in Portuguese that I couldn’t understand, but right there, what I saw behind the strong Entrepreneur is a Beautiful Woman searching for Love.
