Inspiring Conversations with Paola Gil of Dancing Elements

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paola Gil.

Paola Gil

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Originally from Colombia, South America, my deep-rooted passions lie in fostering harmony with Mother Earth, embracing minimalistic and holistic approaches to living. Equipped with a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Arts/Art History and a Master’s degree in Graphic Design, I now share my expertise as an art educator at LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art).

Beyond my role at LACMA, I am deeply committed to regeneration. This commitment finds expression through Dancing Elements, my startup, which is more than just a venture; it’s a testament to my unwavering commitment to fostering harmony between humanity and nature. By melding creativity with sustainability and regenerative principles, my aim is to inspire transformative change and cultivate a deeper connection between individuals and their environment.

My experiences, including global travels, environmental fairs, art workshops, graphic design, Instagram content creation, green design certification, and an internship at Studio Dumbar in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, have enriched my perspective and fueled my passion for promoting a more harmonious existence with our planet.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Striving for a life rooted in 100% sustainability and minimalism presents its own set of challenges, especially in a bustling city where consumerism and materialism dominate the landscape. The constant pressure to align my lifestyle with my values becomes palpable as I navigate through a world saturated with consumerist ideals. From curating my living space to engaging with the community, integrating sustainability and minimalism requires a constant balancing act. At times, it feels like a solitary journey, with few around me sharing the same dedication. However, this sense of isolation is eclipsed by my unwavering determination to uphold my principles and advocate for a more mindful way of living, even in the face of societal pressures.

As you know, we’re big fans of Dancing Elements. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
In a world that often feels fast-paced, overwhelming, and consumed by consumption, I embarked on a journey to slow things down and discovered that my design practice is centered around simplicity and embracing a lifestyle that respects ourselves, others, and the future of our planet. This realization was inspired by regenerative design and the profound connection between humans and nature.

The link that binds us is movement—an incessant flow and evolution. Everywhere, Dancing Elements surround us, from the rhythmic cadence of ocean waves to the sway of trees and the gentle embrace of the wind. These elements come together in a magnificent Universal Dance, serving as providers, nurturers, and guardians. Design has the potential to harmonize with nature, acknowledging our capacity to rejuvenate and safeguard our world for generations ahead.

As a nature-inspired graphic designer, what makes me stand out is my ability to truly connect with clients and their visions. Through active listening, I create designs that are unparalleled and invigorating. I firmly believe that design communicates feelings and narratives. My objective centers around authentic representation and substantial impact, aiming to bring about positive transformation.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I appreciate Los Angeles for its diverse range of landscapes waiting to be explored. However, the city’s notorious traffic and vast distances can sometimes feel overwhelming.
