Rising Stars: Meet Tara Patton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Patton.

Tara Patton

Hi Tara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always been more homeopathic-minded. Through the years I have used natural path doctors, acupuncturists, and chiropractors paired with supplements, teas, and herbs as my modalities of healing. Once I had my son, who is now nine his sicknesses/diagnosis threw me for a loop. He has early-onset asthma, a multitude of allergies, eczema, ear infections, you name it. As much as I tried to get him off traditional medicine I couldn’t. We worked with his pediatrician and asthma and allergy specialists. He was out on multiple medications and a daily regimen. We seemed to be managing his symptoms but deep inside I knew there was a better way. When he was five, I began working with a natural path doctor and really began a deep dive about learning about the human body. I had an insatiable desire for books and podcasts about health and wellness. I can’t explain it in any other way other than that I knew I was on a path of truth and healing for my little guy. Part of the holistic journey was really cleaning out our environment of toxins and being very mindful about what we put into and on our bodies. I watched a little person who seemed sickly to healing and being strong and well. My mother’s heart wanted to help others on that same journey. The word I often use is empowered. When we take responsibility for our health, it is empowering. By a lot of studying, prayer, and intuition I believe that God has helped me on a new journey of wellness. And I want to share that with my community and the world around me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. There have been many obstacles. I am not an entrepreneur by any stretch nor did I think I would own my own business. Truly my desire was to help others. I have learned so many things along the way, and I know I still have so much to learn. We are creating a strong team and a strong community. I feel that Reformation is a mission field. It is bigger than just a “store”, so as difficult as it can be at times the reward is much greater.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a profession, I am a former hairstylist. As much as I enjoyed doing hair, my reason behind the chair was more about the connections that I had with my clients. I guess I have always wanted to help people. I wanted to be a good listener, to be patient, and offer advice when needed. I am most proud of, or I should say my pride and joy are my children. They have taught me the most about myself for sure. So between the desire to help others in combination with a desire for true health and wellness Reformation was formed. Most of the people that come in to shop spend hours there. Doing hair was a beautiful season, now I get to be in a space of meeting people, talking to them, and listening to their hearts in a way that feeds my soul as well.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk taking is RISKY! I am not a risk taker but fortunately, I have a very supportive husband, family, and friends. I would say I am more competitive than I am a risk taker. There were many times that I wanted to throw in the towel and give up but then I tapped into the competitive side of myself. I had some key driving forces. In my family, we are very good at starting things but maybe not finishing them. That could be out of fear of failure or something else deep-seed. So for me every time I wanted to stop I just thought to myself I want to break this generational curse for my daughter. Even if the business doesn’t succeed at least I can say I tried and I can show her that giving something your all, accomplishing something, and following through to the end in itself is a success.
