Life & Work with Edi Callier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edi Callier.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born into a musical family and growing up, I was surrounded by some of the greatest artists that I’ve ever met, even to this day. When I was about five years old, we moved to Covington, Georgia, a city outside of Atlanta (in the country) and there, I got the chance to hone my skills in our home studio spending hours on each instrument and learning to play out my emotions. I played in church with my dad, sang lead for songs on the worship team, and at about 14 years old, I got my first leadership position in church and I utilized that position to express myself even further musically through my arrangements and direction. I did all that I could to make every song my own in some kind of way and In that, I found myself taking those experiences and applying them to my musical journey not only as a musician and singer but as an artist. I started writing more songs, coming up with live arrangements for them, and ultimately began performing those songs on stages in front of live audiences across America.

Those experiences led me to my time on FOX Television’s ‘The Four: Battle for Stardom’ where I got the chance to meet amazing singers, songwriters, and musicians and experienced my first major television appearance and everything that came with it. From there, I continued my journey in Atlanta but in the fall of 2020, I made the decision to pack my bags and move to Los Angeles where I currently reside.

Since then, I’ve experienced some of the greatest moments of my life so far and I’ve experienced some of the most arduous hardships I’ve ever had to endure. I’ve gotten a chance to travel across the country and even outside of it doing what I love, I’ve been presented awards for my works, and even more so, I’ve grown so much as an artist, as a musician, and as the man that I’ve always wanted to become. I’m so honored and so grateful every morning that I wake up and get the chance to do what makes me happy with the intention of making other people happy and though it hasn’t been an easy road, I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This journey definitely hasn’t been a smooth one. It’s been very fruitful and very enlightening but in it, I’ve experienced things I never thought I would at this age. This industry demands so much of you while offering so little in return until you reach a certain point in your career and it makes you really appreciate moments of real human connection, inspiration, and joy.

I feel like the loss of my mom in 2022 changed me on a deeper level than anything I’ve experienced before in my life and going through that while still trying to be an artist and while still trying to be an inspiration to people was probably one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever endured. I experienced panic attacks and massive levels of anxiety all while trying my hardest to be strong for my family and while actively still releasing music and doing shows yet in the midst of it all, that core love for music and its ability to shift atmospheres kept me going.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a recording artist, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer (amongst other things) and I specialize in making music that moves me so that it can go forth to move others.

I’m probably most known for my time on ‘The Four’ or from appearances as a live performer and I’d say the thing that I’m most proud of from the last couple of years is the International Songwriters Award I was presented by the T.U.F.F. foundation in association with the British consulate in Nashville in 2022 for my song “Alone”. It represented so much to me, not just as an award, but because of what it stood for in the field of mental health and to be a part of something so impactful was such an honor and will forever reserve space in my heart.

What are your plans for the future?
My plan is to release more music, put out some music videos, and make an impact on people around the world. I’d love to travel to places I’ve only dreamt of thus far, experience the globe from stages in front of thousands, and do something to, in some way, change lives through the universal language of music.
