Rising Stars: Meet Blackmuseumist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blackmuseumist.

Hi Blackmuseumist, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Event curation started as early as 2001. Experience design has always been a focal point in my practice, which really took off in 2003 with my first ever real live activation event / multi-purpose space that was created by me and some business partners. We created a Juice Bar / Art Lounge in the Art District of Downtown LA.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been very smooth for me in a lot of ways, It’s a very rewarding thing to lean into your gifts and passions and feel supported by the community. There has been struggles along the way, most have just been things that hinder productivity, lack of resources, and lack of adequate rest. The overcome of the struggles make the journey that much sweeter.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is Museum’n. A term that I’ve created that encompasses the multitude of my art practice. Think of MUSEUMIST as a tree and the branches are the types of manifestations that appear from my practice. Each manifestation is interconnected. A lot of my work is collage AKA assemblage. I practice traditional and nontraditional methods, from creating an environment and event curation to actual 2D and 3D mixed media artworks. Photography and graphic design are always peering through my practice as well.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Keep going.
