Meet Dan Lenard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Lenard.

Hi Dan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m originally from Buffalo, NY. My wife and grown boys moved out here in 2015. I spent 15 years in radio and television during the 80’s and 90’s. I left broadcasting, sold life insurance for a while, then went back to college to get my high school teaching certificate.

I obtained that in 1998 and was immediately hired as a high school social studies teacher in a rural district high school. I spent three years as a teacher, getting my MS in education in 2002. From there, I became a stay-at-home dad and found the time to pursue voice acting as a full-time career in 2003-04. I’ve been doing it as a freelance voice actor ever since. (danlenard.com) Along the way, I developed a second career as a home voice-over studio consultant. (homevoiceoverstudio.com). I also began co-hosting a very successful webcast/podcast called Voice Over Body Shop. we’re now in our 12th year. I am also a founding Board member and currently President of World-Voices.org, the industry association of freelance voice talent.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is a struggle. When you’re young and ambitious, you plow through setbacks and disappointments and work harder to make yourself better. I knew it was in my power to do accomplish my professional goals. I’ve accomplished just about everything I set out to do.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve been a voice actor for over 20 years. I’ve voiced national flight commercials, documentaries, a large quantity of e-learning material in all areas of business and professional material. I’ve also voiced over 40 audiobook titles including the entire Jewish Audio Bible!

I am also one of the world’s leading experts in how to record voice over at home without breaking the bank and sounding as good as larger professional studios. Teaching that one-on-one and in classes is my greatest joy.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I studied with Tony Robbins back in the mid ’80s. He taught me to turn fear into power. That kind of training helped me overcome competition in Broadcasting and in Voice acting. Voice Acting is not show business. It’s a freelance, entrepreneurial business that requires the risk of not getting paid unless you land the gigs. The key is to create a constant stream of income from many return clients.
