Life & Work with Valeria LG Barrett (Leczycki Goncharova Barrett)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valeria LG Barrett (Leczycki Goncharova Barrett). Them and their team share their story with us below:

Fine art, fashion, style, science, philosophy, nature, love and wellness — that is what Valeria is about. Visual arts is where her home is. At the age of five, she took big scissors and cut a whole in the middle of the window’s curtain, thus she have created an opening for herself into this world. She was born into an impoverished aristocracy, her family had no means to have beautiful things. However, intuitively, she was always driven toward beauty in everything. So she begun to create those beautiful things for herself and the others as soon as she could figure out how to tinker with needles and nails. Her first pair of sandals she designed from the old shoe soles, nails, and some leftover plastic pieces. When she wore those shoes to the local grocery store, her neighbors didn’t know how to react to such “progressive” fashion so they told to each other that this little girl is “special”.

As a teenager, she figured out that her skirts and jackets that she made out of furniture upholstery fabric and bleached potato bags now will make her a superstar on her daily route to the produce store. Meanwhile, at the art school that she attended since she was 6, she was known there as a talented young artist who painted in a strange, Vincent van Gogh-like style (which she never heard of at this age). She said that she just painted the way she felt, regardless of anybody’s style. Valeria’s mom (who was already an awarded artist and respected art teacher) always encouraged her to be authentic and often said to her: “Do not afraid to make mistakes, get out of the box because that’s how we discover the new ways and the possibilities — that search helps us to become the true creators.” Meanwhile, for Valeria it was just a minor warm-up. Years later when she became an adult, she got the best education and gained decades of professional experience working in arts, fashion and entertainment worlds in Europe and the United States of America.

Today, Valeria LG Barrett (aka Valeria von Leczycki Goncharova Barrett) is a two-time award-winning visual artist, book author, fashion stylist, costume designer, and a healthy lifestyle advocate. She holds the Visual Arts credentials from Harvard University, Graphic Design from the City University of New York, and Fine and Decorative Arts and Culture Management from Belarus State University of Culture and Arts. Valeria was on the board of directors as a program chair for the Los Angeles chapter of Fashion Group International of New York. She is an honorary member of the Academy of Couture Art (now known as the Beverly Hills Design Institute) and a founding charter member and patron of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Beverly Hills. Valeria is an international trendsetter who is globally recognized for her prophetic ability to set the tone of the future trends and is known in Hollywood’s fashion circles for her eccentric bright-colored outfits. She is the author of “Valeria ROVALUTION: Living Life Consciously”. Her new book “Secrets of Color in Fashion and Style” is to be released in 2023.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
“I believe that every birth of life in this world is an opportunity for that life to explore and evolve through challenges. You can interpret that challenge as an exciting journey full of endless possibilities. Or you can interpret that challenge as a threat, then the world itself will become and obstacle for you. It’s how I choose to look at it. I was born into poverty, but yet my family was exceptionally educated and talented. I was bullied at schools and colleges for being different, but that’s what made me stronger and taught me how to handle the adverse environments. My small business in New York collapsed after 9-11 struck, so I went back to school and have learned new skills which later helped me to start a new business. I was exposed to Chornobyl’s radiation and eventually had breast cancer, but I have learned how precious life is and how important it is to take care of my health. Every obstacle is an opportunity.”- says Valeria.
