Hi Saadia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As most women in today’s world, I wear many hats, sometimes all at once!
I began my career journey as a software engineer and transitioned into management. In addition to my decade-long professional career, I am also an avid lifestyle + travel + empowerment instagram content creator (@Saadia237) and an entrepreneur (IndusThreads.com). But the most important role I play is that of a mother, a wife, and a champion of women; inspiring, motivating and empowering them to dream big, achieve their goals and love their confident selves.
Hailing from Pakistan and residing in the US for the last 15 years; I consider myself a global citizen. Being a Pakistani American, I have had the privilege of living a life rich in culture, contrasted with modernity. I enjoy balancing the best of both worlds – drawing inspiration from my heritage while living in Silicon Valley – one of the world’s most modern metropolises.
In 2019, For the first time in my life, I got an opportunity to visit the most rural and poverty stricken areas of Pakistan. I saw women burning wood to make food for every meal and living without basic necessities. Living and working in Silicon Valley, my life had made me distant from this reality that I did not know still existed! I saw kids walking on the streets without shoes and women working long hours in challenging circumstances so that their kids could go to school and live a better life. But the one thing that really inspired me was that these women were hard working, skilled artisans and driven to provide their kids the best life they could while enabling them towards progression.
I came back with a renewed perspective and a mission to help such skilled artisans and underprivileged women around the globe. I strongly believe that if you empower a woman – you empower an entire generation! This was a turning point in my life and as a result, Indus Threads was born. Indus Threads is a purpose driven brand with the aim of improving lives as our core mission. We are a bag and accessories brand curating and creating globally inspired, affordable, elegant and unique statement pieces under one roof. Together, we are a community of powerful women empowering other women. We are focused on empowering our 3 C’s. Our customers, creators and charity partners. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growing a business is challenging as well as rewarding. Like most startups, I pivoted a couple of times till I felt we had finally found our calling. We started off as a home for a variety of handcrafted accessories as well as clothing. Over time, I realized that bags and clutches were what were most in demand and there isn’t much choice for women to adorn their unique arm candy! It’s either high-end bags from expensive brands or the mass-produced stuff you see in a lifestyle brand outlet.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people get surprised at my energy and often ask me how I get the time to juggle being an entrepreneur, a mother, a homemaker with a full-time job and still keep an active social life as well as a fast-growing social media presence.
One thing I have been surprised about in learning about myself is discovering that I have a creative side. Being an engineer, I was always very data-driven and my favorite subject in school was math. But after launching Indus Threads and working on my social media presence, I realized I love writing, designing, creating a brand and marketing.
This goes with my philosophy of pushing your boundaries to grow beyond your comfort zone.
Apart from that I love traveling, reading, hiking and spending time with my family and friends.
