Conversations with Julia Jovone

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Jovone.

Hi Julia, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello and thank you for having me! Truly grateful to be here and to share my story.

When I was young, my dreams were much taller than my height and I truly indeed had intentions at a very young age of turning those big dreams into a reality.

I’ve been blessed to do everything I’ve ever wanted to do and achieve them.  I’m currently still turning new dreams into a beautiful reality. My biggest dream became a reality when I was shy of turning 27 many moons ago. I jumped out on faith and left my hometown of Chicago with a six-year-old (my firstborn at the time) and moved to a city I knew nothing about. NEW YORK CITY! I felt the calling and I answered. One of the best decisions of my life. I left corporate America and took a chance in myself. I told family in friends in Chicago I was moving to NYC and I would win an Oscar for doing Makeup. It took a lot of heart for me to say and do that. However, after 1 year of living in NY I got my dream job working on a set of a TV show. A show I had watched growing up with my grandmother “One Life To Live” after being on the show for 4 years I won my first Emmy Award in Makeup Artistry being the first and only Black Woman to win an Emmy for the show in Makeup Artistry. I begin to work on shows like Law-and-Order SVU., Saturday Night Live, Blur Bloods and host of many other shows and movies. I’ve had the opportunity to work with clients like Shonda Rhimes, Tyler Perry, 50 Cent, Debbie Morgan, Jeffrey Wright, Nas and many others. After working in TV and Film for many years I decided to take another leap of faith making another big move to Los Angeles. Now with a set of Twin Boys and my oldest. Who left for college that same year I relocated to Los Angeles.

I did a lot of reflecting and soul healing in LA which then led me to open a Wellness Studio in Downtown LA so that I could help and assist others on their healing journeys.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The roads of change aren’t ever easy let alone smooth. However, I call them beautiful learning experiences. I made many sacrifices and I feel it was what needed to happen at that time. While in NY after the birth of my twins, while still working on set I managed to return to school and take filmmaking classes at NYU. It was there that I learned the art of filmmaking and photography. Which is one of my dearest hobbies. Which allowed me freedom as a mom to explore what’s good for my spirit. I learned that as a mom as much as you give to your family, you must always give twice as much to yourself. It’s Balance.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a creative soul to the core of my being. I’m also a woman that wears many hats. As of now, I’m still doing makeup on set and with personal clients in LA and in NY. I’m also an Intuitive Reiki Master Teacher, Sacred Shamanic Priestess, Wellness and Tantra Coach as well as an Intuitive Interior Designer.

I’m most proud of the strength and the power of my being to step out on faith and live life on my own terms. Teaching and showing my children that they can do anything if they put their hearts and minds to it. I show them this daily by being a living example of it. I’m also very much proud of my brand House of Juella’s whom I named after my grandmother “Julia Ella” some called her “Juella” I’m able to share with everyone all the things I love and that has helped me along my journey. House of Juella’s is my online wellness boutique for everyday people. May I add we are opening a new studio in Meat Packing District in NYC.

What sets me apart from others is being true to myself, my family, and my clients. I’m grateful to share all the wisdom that has been passed down to me from my grandmother, mother,

And some very beautiful souls I’ve met along my journey in this lifetime.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
first and foremost, my Grandmother Julia and my mom, my mentor and Reiki Master Teacher Andreia, my Pastor Mike Walrond of FCBC in Harlem and my other beloved mentor Susan L. Taylor S well as my children have also been a huge part of my life and my greatest teachers. I also feel that New York as always had my back and has always been a huge motivation and inspiration in my life.
