Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Waters.
Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been fascinated by design ever since I was very young. My mother used to take me to open houses after pre-school and would point out the architectural details throughout homes. Growing up in Los Angeles, I was constantly surrounded by significant and inspiring architecture and design. I sought out The George Washington University for their highly regarded Interior Architecture and Design program. Throughout college, I had various internships in the design industry from Forever 21’s commercial architecture department to working at a boutique mid-century furniture store in Georgetown. After I graduated, I moved back to Los Angeles and worked for a wonderful design firm for four years. Our projects ranged from a production office in Hollywood to an estate in the countryside of Ireland. The knowledge and first-hand experience I gained there was invaluable and allowed me the skill set to jump-start my own design business about two years ago.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Interior Design involves many vendors, contractors, artisans, etc. and all of the moving parts and varying personalities can be difficult to navigate. The pandemic and supply chain issues have definitely posed a challenge, but overall clients are very understanding and in a way, it has allowed us to give more thought and intention to each piece we order.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Lauren Waters Design is a full-service interior design studio based in Los Angeles, CA. From plumbing to pillows, we approach each project with the highest level of detail and care. We aim to create a space that feels both classic and collected.
I view great design as a form of fine art, with my passion for Art History and Decorative Arts strongly influencing my design process. I blend styles to create varied and dynamic spaces that play with color and texture. I am drawn to sculptural forms and enjoy sourcing unique vintage pieces as well as creating custom-made furniture.
What makes you happy?
My work dictates how a client will live in and use their home, so seeing them enjoy it makes me happy and feel I succeeded. I also love when the design process is collaborative!
