Today we’d like to introduce you to Daryl Goldes.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Scoil Rince Daryl Rose Irish Dance was started after I retired from 13 years of competitive Irish dancing. My first class was opened in a local elementary school’s after school program.
My first class had 7 students. I put out advertising in the community through shows and flyers. In the three years that we have been in operation, we have become a staple at many community events within the Conejo Valley. We have put many dancers through competitions and other performance opportunities.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I am currently the only person running the school, so I do all the teaching, scheduling, emails, and more. I have had to be very diligent with time management and learning how to delegate tasks. I have also learned how to separate my personal and professional life for the sake of running the business. I also currently work full time in the healthcare field, so I have quite limited time to myself as well!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Scoil Rince Daryl Rose Irish Dance – what should we know?
Scoil Rince Daryl Rose Irish Dance offers Irish dancing classes (like the acclaimed show Riverdance first made popular in the 1990s) to children and adults of all ages. You don’t have to be Irish to do Irish dancing! I am most proud of my personal decision to start my first class on my own, and proud of my dancers for their hard work and personal accomplishments in the competitive world. Scoil Rince Daryl Rose are different from other types of dance because we do not dance to inappropriate music or wear skimpy outfits. Parents can feel comfortable knowing that their dancers will participate in a highly athletic and cultural activity that will not compromise their personal values of modesty and will be able to excel in both solo and team dancing.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My parents have been amazing at helping me with anything that I need, whether it has been graphic arts, costuming, or referrals to professionals that I need for business operations. My partner has been to nearly all of the dancers’ competitions and shows, and I am so grateful for their support. The parents and families who make up our school have been so supportive and willing to help me and be there for their dancers.
