Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Lowe.
Hi Alyssa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ever since I was a young person in middle school, I was fascinated with doing hair and expressing myself through color and makeup. If I wasn’t sneaking around to change my hair color while my parents were out of town, I was helping a friend shave their head or spike their hair with egg whites and super glue. Pop punk and punk rock were a huge influence on the edgy looks I poorly created as a youth. My heart was definitely in the industry but at that point, I had no idea that I could make a career out of it. As my schooling progressed, I felt the pressure of finding a career or college but the structure of school never appealed to me. I would much rather read, draw & use my time to express myself creatively. All the while experimenting on my hair & my friends. Once it was time for me to make a choice on what to do after school, I jumped right into beauty school. I really thrived in an environment full of like-minded people. I finally felt like I fit in. I shortly got pregnant with my beautiful daughter before completing the Cosmo program, but once having her I dove right back in & completed school. I worked as an assistant for about a year in a large salon, at this salon I realized I fully could open and operate my own salon as a single mother, after almost eight years of hard work, I am showing how possible it is to be a successful stylist.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For my whole life, I have struggled with addiction but chose to get clean & sober for my daughter. To maintain a certain standard and show her that overcoming obstacles is very possible. Unfortunately, her father lost his fight to addiction & passed away right before she turned four, this was very challenging because I was working so hard to keep all of us on track. But I definitely used this to continue to motivate me to create a business and lifestyle that would help our daughter through this tremendous loss.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love color! I am so passionate about it, whether it’s bold pops or vibrant blondes, I am so big on the BOLDER the better. Fashion colors are my specialty, people travel far and wide to sit in my chair & go neon green or baby pink. Anything funky and bright, I am your girl!
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Instagram is a great platform I often use. Growth and support especially in strong woman-founded & owned businesses are key.
