Today we’d like to introduce you to Gloria Kim.
Hi Gloria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was in 4th grade when I bought my first songwriting journal at the Scholastics Book Fair. That journal was the beginning of my passion for writing and music. Fast forward to college, I ended up at a school in Oklahoma my freshman year studying something I had no interest in, in hopes of making my parents happy. However, I was miserable, so I decided to transfer into Belmont University my sophomore year. I wanted to pursue music in any capacity and so I thought it would be best to get a degree in Music Business so that I could navigate the industry a little better. While I was at Belmont, studying music business and audio engineering, I was still writing and recording my music. I decided to release some music on Bandcamp and my friend Chad Albers reached out to work since he was producing music in the LA area. I started coming out to LA to work on tracks with him and while I was out here, I was able to start making connections with other artists, writers, producers, etc.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey itself has been full of adventure, great friends, and incredible memories. However, there have definitely been some super challenging times.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Korean-American songwriter, artist, producer, and DJ! I started off as a writer here in LA but got a call to sing on a track for Australia’s #1 DJ, Will Sparks! The track I did with him has since gotten over 28 million streams and I’ve been releasing music ever since. I’ve been blessed to have had some cool opportunities like having my songs in Empire and Selena Gomez/David Henries movie ‘This is the Year’. Last year, I got to produce the music for the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Filter for SnapChat!
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Best: Diversity, weather, other creatives
Least: Of course the traffic
