Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Peltier.
Amy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I graduated from college over 15 years ago with a Bachelors in Interior Design. I was born and raised in the mid-west but after I graduated I made the decision to venture out west. Little did I know this would be the first of many moves around the country, but more importantly all of these different living experiences have influenced what my design style and aesthetic is today. When I finally landed in southern California I had a 6-month-old baby and was ‘taking a break’. But the itch to design pushed me back into owning my own business and I re-opened my firm in January of 2013. I always say with kids, “The days are long and the years are short.”, this apparently applies to entrepreneurship as well. What began as a niche in nurseries and children’s rooms, grew from a one-woman operation out of my dining room, to a full retail space and a design firm with 4 employees. Now we not only love to design a children’s room here and there, but we handle full scale renovations, new construction as well as smaller projects such as single rooms or a simple room refresh with accessories. The retail studio has allowed us to expand the brand past the larger design projects that we have been completing for so many years.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road! It’s simply a series of extreme highs and extreme lows and you have to have the stomach for the ride. Every day presents a new struggle but I love the challenge of thinking on my feet and overcoming all of them. Some of them bigger than others, such as a lull in projects or cash flow, to smaller things like the time we sent out a mailer with the wrong phone number. It’s never a dull moment and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Please tell us about A. Peltier Interiors and Peltier Home.
We are a full-scale interior design firm with a retail showroom full of beautiful accessories, custom upholstery, unique art and pillows full of personality. Our design approach is client focused and our design aesthetic is classic, simple, comfortable interiors and home decor. We want every client to experience what we love so much about design. It’s a huge rush to find a fabric that makes you smile, or to walk into a room that is completely you and completely finished from top to bottom. We aren’t interested in loads of clutter and we definitely don’t take ourselves to seriously. At the end of the day, every client should love their home and love the experience.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The day my mom told me I could “Rag Roll” my bedroom walls! I plotted and planned the color scheme for days and finally landed on shades of yellows and shades of blue. Remember, this was the 90’s! But I still love blues to this day, so maybe not much has changed.
