Life & Work with Siva Kaneswaran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Siva Kaneswaran.

Born in Ireland, the youngest of eight kids to a Sri Lankan father and Irish mother, SIVA got hooked on soul and R&B as a child. In order to overcome a speech impediment, he sang when he couldn’t speak—mimicking favourites a la Lionel Richie and Sade. By high school, he picked up guitar and grew as a writer. Moving to London, his first music audition led to a spot in The Wanted in 2009. The band earned a multiple awards with “Glad You Came” and a gold plaque for “Chasing The Sun” in addition to starring in the E! series The Wanted Life.

2016 saw The Wanted disband amicably as SIVA quietly plotted his next move under-the-radar. After the band disbanded amicably, Siva returned with his anxiously awaited debut single “Breathe In” which expressed how he heals from anxiety and fears. Siva says. “Personally, I focused on the breathe because I believe it’s the direct path to the soul and deep conscious breathing is one of the most powerful keys to unlocking your physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.” “When you hear my new music, I just want to take you on a journey” he leaves off. “I want to show the world how I get through things. Music is so powerful. It can heal. I hope to share that.” Sivas Second single “Ready For This Love” is a feel-good love anthem set released last November 20th. “Ready For This Love” celebrates innocence and is a remembrance of what it feels like to love. Siva has just begun to introduce himself and his solo music, turning the page on what promises to be his biggest and boldest chapter.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a wonderful journey with lots of ups and downs. I started very young in a boyband and the process of finding myself as a solo artist was quite hard and I didn’t even realize who I was really until my late 20’s. One main struggle. I was kind of a people pleaser. I always outsourced for approval with my life choices for fear of failure and judgment. So, I began Learning to check in with how I am feeling as regards to my Art and found a place where I can feel fully myself and express it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an Artist at heart. A singer-songwriter by trade and storyteller in spirit. I am known for being part of Multi-platinum award-winning band “The Wanted” and I am very proud of what positive effects my music has left on the planet. What sets me apart is my diverse style and the way I approach Art. Everyone has their own artistic style. I like to create soundscapes in my music and share my Irish and Indian culture in my message.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see the majority of the music industry moving online. The way we see, hear and feel music is drastically going to change with the emergence of Vr, haptic feedback and surround sound technology. Live shows are risky now and people like to be home more than ever. Also, I think just like Europe, American music will become way more diverse. Welcoming in Artists of more specifics tastes to American palette.
