Today we’d like to introduce you to Ted Sloan.
Ted began a life of fitness by the age of 4, truly becoming intrigued about maximizing human potential by the age of 13, while playing baseball and basketball in high school. He went on to play baseball briefly and ran track at the collegiate level.
Since 2013, Ted has had the amazing opportunity to learn from some of the best Strength & Conditioning Coaches in the world; these include arguably the best and most awarded Coach in the world, Charles Poliquin, the first woman Strength Coach in the NFL, Lee Brandon, previous Olympic hurdler, Dean Lang, and previous Olympic Track Coach, Charles Debus. Coach Ted continues to improve his craft, attending several seminars, courses, and registering for and completing multiple certifications annually.
In 2014, he participated in an internship with UCLA’s Athletic Performance Program, having helped design athlete programs, run large group sessions, and work closely with many different personality types. Ted has worked for Velocity Sports Performance in West Los Angeles since the very beginning of 2015. At Velocity, Ted has coached multiple Major League Baseball players, Professional and Collegiate Football players, Volleyball, Water Polo players, as well as amateur skiers, wrestlers, fighters and more.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The obstacles on my journey have definitely consisted of having a lack of money and finding ways to continue to advance my knowledge. I have already spent over $4,000 in the first quarter of 2017 on continuing education. When I was interning at UCLA, I woke up every morning at 3:15 AM to begin my day by 4:30 AM. I continued to train at UCLA until around 5 PM, after which I rushed home an hour away to train anywhere from 2 to 4 clients, ate dinner, went to bed and repeated. I managed to learn more at UCLA than anywhere else and it helped to set the base of my Athletic Performance career. I would not trade any moment back for anything in the world.
Kaizen Athletic Performance – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Kaizen stands for “constant and never ending improvement.” We believe in treating our athlete’s as individuals and it has taken me nearly 4-years to discover and learn an assessment for the body that I truly believe will help all athletes to the fullest potential. We believe that anyone can perform, look like and feel like an athlete and we ensure that we do it in the best ways possible.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is a combination of running my business successfully to the point I can survive somewhat comfortably and continue to learn and create some free time in my life, while more importantly helping my athlete’s to perform better, extend their careers and help define good morals, conscience and mindset’s, especially in my youth athletes!
