Meet Jeremy Scippio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Scippio.

Jeremy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. Growing up, I went to a Performing Arts school where I studied Jazz Piano and Visual Arts. After flirting with the idea of doing stand-up comedy for years, I decided I wanted to do it full-time. I had three jobs, I quit two of them to give some time to my passion, the last job laid me off shortly after. At that time, I had no excuses left so, I moved to Hollywood, CA. It was a rough transition initially but I was able to navigate through the hardships due to friends and good timing. Doing stand-up comedy on a consistent besses led to plenty of opportunities from headlining comedy clubs internationally, opening for comics I grew up idolizing, to acting in films, music videos, viral sketches, etc. I produced several successful shows (including one in my own namesake) and host a podcast with one of my mentors.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There were plenty of hardships that came from this lifestyle. You spend a lot of time not knowing when (or if) you’re going to get paid. Finding an apartment in LA is extremely tough. The traffic, signing up for the right programs, taking classes, networking, entering competitions and festivals. I travel from city to city often. Some places I never been, sometimes I don’t know if everything is going to be in order when I get there. I really believe there should be some kind of union in place for comedians. I would like to be a catalyst for that someday but I still enjoy the struggles somewhat.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I mostly do stand-up comedy. I’ve always been an overthinker. I’ll analyze and breakdown a situation over and over. It’s been to my benefit as well as my detriment. Comedy has been the perfect medium to express my ideas in a healthy way. As a global thinker, I believe my ideas can help affect the world for the better as my comedy idols have. I have been known to be prophetic at times.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I was told luck is when preparation meets opportunity. If that’s true then it plays a constant active role in everything I do. I learned that all of my hard work, life experiences and offered knowledge pays off when you least expect it to. I also learned when I wasn’t prepared for a situation, that means that it wasn’t meant for me at that time. Sometimes no doesn’t mean never, it can also mean not yet. Timing is everything!
