Meet Hiram Altamirano of Blackcanvas Agency in Venice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hiram Altamirano.

Hiram, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Chaos.

I wish you CHAOS!

You know, lately it’s been hard for a lot of people to find balance.

We are going through such a tragic transition that not everyone knows what to expect, including myself.

I was born in Mexico City, March 12, 1991. When I was eight years old, I was kidnapped in Mexico City but thanks to that, my family and I had to move to Los Angeles, California and this was the time and place where I discovered myself.

I remember that was the first time my family and I were exposed to something that was out of the norm for us. A completely different lifestyle we never thought we would experience.

I think adaptation grew into my DNA right after having to come into a different country. As humans, we are constantly evolving but also adapting to our surroundings. That is what happened to eight years old Hiram. That was the first time I was drastically put into a situation and lifestyle I was not used to and was totally out of my comfort zone and control.

In 2020 I am finding myself facing a very similar situation. I am going through a time where I have to readapt to a new world and think outside the box In order to face new challenges coming my way.

My life has been filled with unexpected chaos, but thanks to that, it has helped me face tough situations and has prepared me for tough times ahead. As of now, I am an Entrepreneur as I like to call myself. I started in the music industry and little by little grew into being more of a creative person and also being passionate about business and making money out of ideas. One of my biggest challenges was to build a restaurant in Tulum Mexico (@hashtgpoketulum.) It was a big challenge because my life was here in LA, but for some reason the distance and the difficulties was part of the drive that made me do it. I’ve been exploring different business models and I’ve succeeded and failed like anyone else.

I remember when I was growing up, I had no money to shoot my music videos which is what really pushed me into learning everything that has to do with film and videos. I used to use my friend’s computer to learn new things and used to do a lot of work for free until I decided that it was time to take creativity into something a little more serious.

I started Blackcanvas Agency in 2018 and from there, I have specialized myself in business consulting and social media content. I’ve compiled all of my experience in helping young entrepreneurs to go in the right direction when it comes to starting a new business and creating content for their brand. But lately, things have taken a spin. There is a lot of uncertainty in the world and with that comes a lot of chaos.

Lately, I have been studying different things and studying different aspects of the market and the way things go. I think this year was truly unexpected for many of us not just myself. But I would like to say that I am applying some of this knowledge integrated in me. This is one of the reasons why I am not afraid of change. Change is good and from chaos comes order. So I would like to say that I wish you chaos in your life so that you can find order. Now more than ever is a good time to start a business. Some of the biggest companies were created during the recessions. I can’t wait for the new Tesla’s, for the new Instagram’s, for the new Snapchats. I am excited for what is to come with new companies. Things will never be the same like Tupac used to say. So this means now more than ever, you have to re-adapt to the new world. You have to be like water and learn to shape into any surface.

The future as we all see it is technology. Today we noticed how important it is for us to spend our money on products that have a value behind it. Today more than ever, we see that people are not willing to buy anything that has no meaning behind it unless it’s a necessity. So it is a perfect time to re-evaluate our products and ask, “why the heck would someone buy my product?” It’s the era where we make business with avatars, this is the perfect example! I recently launched an app called HUE (@hueappco www.hueapp.co) with a team of young entrepreneurs that will be launching next month. The crazy thing is that I’ve never met some of my partners personally. It’s all done through a computer, google meetups, zoom calls, etc. etc. This just keeps showing us that you have the world in your hands. All you need is a brain full of ideas and the will to take action. I always read in books that during a recession is a good time to start a business, so I decided to focus some of my time into a new project. I was always a kid with big dreams and I am making it happen for myself since I am the first generation to have legal status in the US from my family.

Also, one of the things I always recommend to some of my friends is that they need to learn how to sell! Knowing how to sell a product or anything really, can come so clutch in your life. I learned this tool from one of my uncles while I was working in a financial advisory company with him. He taught me that I could be anyone I wanted to be and it’s true. So don’t doubt yourself. Study, learn & Take action. I believe that it’s always better to learn on the way than to wait for the perfect time. There is no perfect time because timing is perfect. Go ahead and DO IT! Your time is NOW. Learn to visualize the future and ask yourself what would better the world and you will have answers. Learn to readapt and don’t let the new system take over you. The future is NOW! Create, think and reinvent yourself.

So what is my message here to you guys? Find the balance between chaos, motivation and faith.

Why? Because these are the three things in life that have taught me that without them, I cannot move forward without them.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There has never been a smooth road along the way for me, but because of this, because of all of this chaos I have found my peace. Whether that’s in my personal life, my business and just life in general so much chaos has let me to where I am now.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is a very important word for me. I think the way I define that powerful word is by doing what you love.

Owning your time is the second big one for me and being healthy, surrounded by people you love.

We were meant to fly and explore the world so if I have those three I am successful.
