Today we’d like to introduce you to Callie Lions The Green Beauty Mom.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Callie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
From a very early age, my love of beauty was influenced by my grandmother and mother. I would just sit for hours on end watching them cleanse their face and rub all sorts of lotions and potions on their skin and then be entranced by all the health food stores my mom would take me to. They planted the seed of living a Green beauty lifestyle in me without even realizing what they were doing by just being themselves lovers of beauty and a touch of hippie. Little did they know that this seed would blossom into a passion to help people all over the world transform their lives through Green beauty.
My very first job in the beauty industry was working for Lancôme. Then I went on to work for Aveda, The Body Shop and a small international beauty boutique, which housed many different luxury skincare and makeup brands under one roof. I know that AVEDA helped me to really establish roots in the industry and THE BODY SHOP helped me discover the heart of my future business, which was to have a mission to help others interwoven within the philosophy of my company.
After 15 years of being in retail, I finally realized I was ready to expand my horizon into learning how to make beauty products like the ones I had always used. I started researching schools in skincare formulation and came across Formula Botanica by founder Lorraine Dallmeier. Her school was most in line with my goals, so I enrolled and I am now so glad that I did! I have learned to formulate from her courses as well as develop my knowledge of skincare based on solid scientific research. And most importantly, I have found my true passion and niche in the huge Green beauty industry just by being her student.
While a student, I got pregnant and this was when I truly decided to make the switch to 100 percent natural organic green beauty brands. We are already bombarded with so many toxins just walking out the door and, understanding this, my husband and I wanted our family to have the best care and green products at home. And since I was a lover of makeup and skincare that meant that I needed to make the switch to green beauty before our baby arrived. My husband switched over to Green Products as well for his selfcare regimen and he loves it!
I started with one product at a time but as I got closer to the birth, I realized the importance of getting everything in my beauty cabinet switched over. So, I am happy to say that now we are a totally nontoxic and chemical-free home! Victory! It was not easy, and it did not happen overnight, but I can say with confidence that it has resulted in improved health for our whole family.
So now I am here sharing my passion about changing your health and your life by making the switch to Green Beauty. The Green Beauty Mom is more than just a business, it is a lifestyle and a family that you can count on to be there every step of the way to guide you in your journey in making the switch to Green Beauty.
As the Green Beauty Mom, the heart of my business is to help people change their health and their life, especially all the moms out there. And my real passion, I have found, is sharing reviews of often lesser-known yet brilliant new green beauty brands.
So what is Green beauty? To us, it means that not only are the contents of the bottle are organic or natural but also that the product was manufactured using sustainable and renewable resources.
The core of our business philosophy is that the products that we recommend and you ultimately use are good for you, your family and the world! Our company has a sense of responsibility to give back to the people and planet that helped to make our products. Lastly, we want you to walk away from your beauty & self-care routine every day feeling refreshed and rejuvenated knowing that everything you put on your skin is healthy, of the highest quality, consciously and ethically sourced and is contributing back to your local/global communities, while giving you the results you need.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been anything but easy. There is a famous quote that I love from my mentor Daisaku Ikeda which says, “Life is about scaling one mountain, then facing the next one, and the one after that. Those who persevere finally succeed in conquering the highest of mountains. On the other hand, those who avoid such challenges by taking the easy route will only descend into the valleys” For me having a great mentor in life has allowed me to win over every obstacle on the way to achieving my dreams of owning my own beauty brand and working in the Green Beauty industry.
Experience is important but there is only so far my own wisdom can take me. I also turn to other peers and colleagues in the industry to guide me when I am at a crossroads in my business and this has been life changing. In addition, being a wife, mom and having many other roles often leaves me with very little time to work on my business, so I do it whenever I can squeeze out a small pocket of time. I never rush the process though, because I have learned from two decades of working in the Green Beauty Industry that it takes time to make a dream a reality, and to find other likeminded individuals who lead their businesses with heart and integrity like I do. My motto is NEVER GIVE UP! That is how I always persevere and make it up the mountain of obstacles in front of me, in business and in life.
What were you like growing up?
I was raised in Tijuana Mexico and I am of Persian descent, so I consider myself a world citizen. I also have 9 brothers and sisters that live all over the world.
I moved a lot growing up and it taught me to make friends very quickly and I am happy to say I still keep in touch with many of them. This is truly a gift that I cherish. I feel most at home in nature among the wildflowers and the forest. Though my mother and grandmother helped to carve out my passion for beauty, it wasn’t until I hit my twenties that I was able to find my own version of what I wanted my life to be. The turning point for me was when I became an SGI Buddhist in my mid-twenties. Once I honed in on my love for beauty and nature combined with my new Buddhist practice I very naturally determined to have my own Green Beauty line and work in a holistic and natural community. Now I am there in the middle of the greatest life possible and all thanks to my wonderful mentor, family and friends.
