Meet Project Jay in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Project Jay.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Figuring out how to channel expression, music came to when I was younger. Surrounded by a household that played every type of music From Rap/HipHop to Spanish and Rock, music was always there as an escape. From performing at family parties as a kid to freestyling with friends and musicians alike, I developed the craft of producing and writing music. I began getting more into studios as a teenager, understanding the concept of creating music on my own and collaborating with different artists and producers from Los Angeles all the way across to Tokyo. Over time I have been able to work on some amazing projects as an artist, producer, and audio engineer. Dedicating myself to this craft, it has helped me get to where I want to be and has only pushed me in directions I will be forever grateful.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There’s never a road that does not have twists and turns. Dealing with different people and energy in the industry you tend to get in deep and forget why you started in the first place. Music to me however has always been a symbol of optimism. The true reason why I am here today is because at the end of the day, good music is what matters.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am an artist at the end of it all, I love to create when it comes to every aspect of my life. Channeling expression from writing to music production. Whether it be a good day or a bad day, I can take that and create art from it. It feels like a release of emotion, being able to do that has always been something I cherish deeply. Being from Los Angeles, the surroundings have molded me into the person I am, I use my experience through storytelling and connect with the listener. Being able to inspire by giving them insight to the culture I express.

What sets me apart from others is my ‘let’s go’ attitude. I pull inspiration from some of the smallest things, no such thing as a block to me. Whether it be my own projects or collaborating with others on music, audio engineering, and/or post-production. I always believe I will pull through and create the best piece of art once I get my hands on it. With every piece that is given to me, it should always leave with greater purpose and above all, be the greatest it can be.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
The definition of success to me is connection. Being able to help others and make others feel a way they’ve never felt before. When I can inspire others, I feel most successful. I personally feel I have many more things to accomplish, however if I do not change the matter of the masses along the way, I won’t be as fulfilled. I want people to look at me and find themselves, that to me would be the ultimate goal of my journey.
