Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisha Dumont.
Elisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Originally from Boston, I moved to LA to pursue an acting and modeling career. I wanted to become an actress because I loved all effort, talent and work that went on to put together a show or a film but I also wanted to make a change. Since a young age, I wanted to provide a positive representation for little girls of color like me.
I was never good at school work so eventually getting into a college was a struggle for me. I settled for going to a community college In hopes to transfer out. In which I did and into my dream school where I was lucky enough to afford to attend to for acting. However, I was struggling with both my mental and my physical health. During all this, I focused my time to taking acting classes and reading books. I grew up in fairly rough neighborhoods but thankfully tv and movies acted as a distraction, so I never had too much free time to waste.
Today I still tackle some of those mental issues however living each day more authentically my sneaker and makeup loving self, life has become enjoyable. I not only get to enjoy little things the quarantine but I can now focus all the positive energy I have into fighting injustice.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t always a smooth road but it is definitely smoother today. I suffered from mental health like anxiety and depression from bullying and terrible loss. My physical health wasn’t the best either especially after a terrible back injury and a really bad car accident. And of course, last but not least, bad relationships.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a working actor and inspiring model. My business is my talent and the vibe I exude. My talent comes from a mixture of information I got from self-educating but also from my four years at Emerson College. As far as my vibe goes, that’s a little harder to explain but in short, you should never feel anything less of love and positivity when with me.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have so many. Loud and big family gatherings filled with movie and food and watching classic movies with my mom would be my favorite.
