Meet Sarah Cat of MOODboards LA in Mid City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Cat.

Sarah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a holistic health coach and the founder of MOODboards LA, where I create edible mood-enhancing food boards with infused superfoods. My mission is to empower women to feel their best and find joy in their health journeys. I had a long and winding path to get where I am today, but it all allowed me to grow and find my purpose.

In my previous career, I was a fashion designer. I graduated from The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, and I loved the creativity and artistic expression of fashion. I first started to explore nutrition as a way to heal myself, both physically and spiritually. Throughout my life, I’ve struggled with health issues (from cancer to anxiety, to skin issues). In my thirties, I was also going through a divorce and some major personal transitions, and I found myself again in the kitchen. Through connecting with food, I reconnected with myself.

I started to experiment with cooking with adaptogens, and I realized that eating this way made such a profound difference in my mood and overall happiness. I studied at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition to learn more about the science of nutrition, and I started to incorporate spirituality and self-care into my life.

The one thing that was missing for me during this time was the creative and artistic element I was craving. So I thought, ‘why not combine all my passions and create something that will bring people joy, enhance their health, and look beautiful?’ And that is how MOODboards LA was born! I started making moodboards for myself and friends and everyone kept asking where they could purchase one, so it organically became a business and has been growing ever since!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. As I mentioned, I struggled with a variety of health issues, battled cancer, and grappled with intense anxiety. In the midst of this, I also went through a divorce. I felt like I had to completely start over and reinvent myself — both personally and professionally. What I want people to know is that it’s never too late to make a change. I know it’s scary to go through big transitions or feel like you’re starting over, but that’s when the magic happens and you discover something new about yourself.

MOODboards LA – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
As a holistic health coach, I offer one-on-one coaching to help my clients find a non-diet approach to healthy eating that feels sustainable and joyful for them. My program is unique because it combines the science of nutrition with holistic and spiritual health practices. I help clients connect to their intuition, understand their eating habits on a deeper level, and ultimately eat with intention. I’m also working on wellness digital courses to share my message with more people.

As the founder of MOODboards LA, I create works of edible art filled with fresh fruit and veggies, hand-dipped beet dyed eggs, infused dips, infused chocolate with edible glitter, and floral art. They are beautiful and delicious, but what really sets them apart is that I infuse all the dips with adaptogens, nootropics, and CBD so they enhance your mood and help you feel more clear-headed and balanced. MOODboards are amazing for brand events and special celebrations.

I am proud that I created a business that is uniquely my own and it became successful in an organic, authentic way. It fills me up so much to see how people react to my MOODboards. Seeing their pure joy and awe at my creations makes me incredibly happy.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Having self-compassion has been so important as I evolve and grow my business. I think it’s an essential quality for entrepreneurs. With self-compassion, you can be aware of your strengths but also recognize and own your mistakes and where you need to grow. I’ve learned to give myself grace and patience if something doesn’t go well or if I’m having an ‘off’ day. Being compassionate toward myself helps me learn from those moments and keep propelling forward.
