Today we’d like to introduce you to Pete Salgado.
The eldest of three raised in San Fernando by a single mother, a dreamer at an early age but was taught the value of education and hard work. Attended SF Mission community college while working full time at In & Out Burger stand with dreams of leaving the small town. As an intern at Capital Records, he met his mentor and friend for life Attorney Anthony Lopez who played a major role in his career. As a graduate of Finance and speaking Spanish he had the opportunity to work with Latin greats such as Juan Gabriel, Joan Sebastian, Los Tucanes de Tijuana. On a favor asked by his mentor he was introduced to a spunky single mother who was looking to build her team as she set out on her own, this was the nonother then Jenni Rivera.
The pair were a natural fit since they both grew up on Rap and Traditional Mexican music as well as its cultures. Salgado has been credited for orchestrating Jenni’s greatest nonmusical achievements such as her Reality TV series, her tequila, her book, her ABC sitcom and Las Vegas residency to name a few. Upon her tragic death, he has continued to consult with artists and brands on packaging and has since shifted his efforts into film productions. A pioneer in breaking barriers Pete continues to take Mexican regional artist to places you would never expect them to be, like his recent deal with Build a Bear and Banda MS. A true inspiration and community leader.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has never been easy when people have been doing the same for generations it’s hard to break cycles. When I started with Jenni I could understand why women were not given the same opportunities as men. I was raised by a single mother, it didn’t make her less of a woman to me she was greater than the father who wasn’t there. But change only happens with persistence. Circumstances do not dictate your outcome.
Please tell us more about your work. What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I have a consulting business, we specialize in Entertainment, Management and Production services. With years of experience and resources, we have helped established artists analyze their earning potential and we have also packed and launched new artists. We have recently started production side to tell the great stories in our Latino communities. Having been the credited for creating the first Latino family in reality and winning an Imagen Award for my work it has inspired me to share our stories and successes.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
The greatest of them was Attorney Anthony R Lopez my mentor and friend for life, my mother Gloria Salgado who was my greatest advocate, my Tia Huera and Uncle Johnny who were my surrogate parents they taught me so much and made sure that God was part of all I did. My wife Gloria and children Elias, Mark, Ivan and Jocelyn. And Jenni Rivera she was as the hardest working artist I have known, she knew she was destined for greatness.
